Taekwondo Instructor
Position: Taekwondo Instructor (Youth Sports Staff)
Wage: $17.13 to $17.13 per hour (Compensation is determined based on relevant experience, skills, and qualifications, with most new hires starting between the minimum and midpoint of the posted wage range)
Hours: Part-Time, Up to 25 hours per week
Location: Lakewood Family YMCA, Lakewood, WA
As a Taekwondo instructor you will be responsible instructing and engaging youth to participate in taekwondo classes. Individuals in this role will focus on the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 15 years of age or older.
- Six months or more of related experience (preferred).
- The ability to instruct participants in techniques.
- CPR, First Aid, AED certifications (preferred).
- Positive attitude.
- Knowledge and skills in programming, activities, and sports.
- Must be able to pass Background and Reference checks (in accordance with the WA State Fair Chance Act).
- Committed to valuing and promoting diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
- Able and willing to complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day, and other online and in-person training as required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach the basics of Taekwondo including stances, blocks, basic kicks, strikes, forms, balance, coordination, and beginner self-defense concepts.
- Lead structured classes that support skill progression for beginners of varying ages.
- Maintain a safe class environment by teaching proper technique and supervising all activities.
- Encourage positive participation, cooperation and exemplify our core values.
- Assist in creating age appropriate lesson plans to ensure fun, high-energy classes.
- Work alongside volunteers to assist with programming.
- Track program attendance.
