Housing Specialist

Blue Water Community Action has a job opening for a full-time Housing Specialist.

 

JOB TITLE:                 Housing Specialist 

PROGRAM:                 Asset Development

SUPERVISOR:             Asset Development Manager

STATUS:                       Specialist, Non-Exempt

WAGES:                        $19.04 - $20.62 per hour

 

The Housing Specialist is responsible for providing financial and homeownership education to clients in group and individual settings. They are also responsible for helping individuals develop a budget, savings plan, and written financial goals. 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – JOB SPECIFIC

  1. Programs: Provide financial services programs to the community per program guidelines.
  2. Recruitment: Assist with the recruitment of potential program applicants.
  3. Applications: Assist clients in the completion of application for services.
  4. Record Keeping: Maintain current client files and data entry of client information in program specific software.   Provide client data as required for reporting purposes. 
  5. Case Management: Provide case management
  6. Monitor: Perform random reviews of all required files to ensure they are complete and meet requirements.
  7. Community Partnerships: Assist with establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with local agencies and funding sources.
  8. Public Relations: Represent BWCA at community agencies or organizations. 
  9. Instruct: Conduct group education on financial literacy and homeownership.
  10. Funding: Assist with seeking additional program funding and partners.
  11. Referrals: Make referrals to appropriate resources. Maintain and expand referral network.
  12. Other: Additional duties as assigned.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – ORGANIZATIONAL

  2. Customer Service: Provide quality customer service in a prompt, respectful, and professional manner. Conduct formal/informal assessment of eligibility for BWCA programs and make referrals as appropriate.
  3. Quality of Work: Consistently perform job duties accurately and timely; cost conscious when utilizing materials and resources; seek opportunities for improving processes; and meet commitments and deadlines. 
  4. Flexibility/Adaptability: Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to change and to recommendations for improving job performance in a positive manner.
  5. Safety: Demonstrate safe work habits. Report unsafe conditions and incidents immediately. Participate in the maintenance of a clean and safe work environment.
  6. Teamwork: Effectively participate as a team member at multiple organizational levels and across departments. 
  7. Goals: Understand and meet organizational goals/objectives related to position including agency strategic plan, ROMA plan, as well as taking on duties that are not related to position as supports for management staff/support staff to reach goals/objectives. Management: Team achieves program outcomes.
  8. Communication: Effectively communicate with other staff, clients, partners, and the public in a manner that is tactful, sensitive, and respectful. Demonstrate active listening. Demonstrates friendly, positive “can do” attitude. Oral and written communications are clear, concise and accurate. Keep team members informed and follow appropriate channels for communication. 
  9. Confidentiality: Maintain confidentiality of client and organizational information. Share information only with authorized personnel.
  10. Improvement: Continually improve skills through a variety of opportunities external and internal with particular attention to goals set related to improvement. Improve outcomes results of assessments related to job position, client outcomes, and organizational goals.  Attend training opportunities as available. 
  11. Compliance to Policy: Understand and comply with current organization, regulatory and funding policies and procedures.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Associate’s degree in related field.
  2. HUD’s Housing Counselor Certification is required within 6 months of hire.
  3. Experience in the areas of budgeting, finance credit, and/or general business.
  4. Must be bondable.
  5. Proficient in computer, clerical tasks, and organizational skills.
  6. Experience working with low-income individuals.
