I.T. NETWORK TECHNICIAN

General Statement of Work:

Under the direction of the Chief of Police, the individual will be responsible for providing technical support in the operations of the Police Department’s data communications networks by analyzing, installing, troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining the computer hardware, software and data communications equipment as well as providing technical support to all city employees.   

Major Duties:

The following list of essential job functions is not exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

• Maintain file and CCTV servers.
• Setup and maintain system users.
• Installs and administers computer software and hardware. 
• Provide full range of technical support related to desktops and peripheral devices to department staff. 
• Ensures that all LEADS, NCIC and other Law Enforcement programs’, policies, and regulations are known and observed by all employees of the North Royalton Police Department. 
• Manages consulting contracts and works with outside consulting providers and vendors.
• Performs other duties as required by the Chief of Police or Technology Director. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of the features, performances and operation of computer networks; a working knowledge of various computer operating systems and various PC software applications. 
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff members and to interact with supervisors, peers and users in a professional manner.
• The ability to comprehend new technologies and integrate them into the current environment.
• The ability to use independent judgement to determine direction and make decisions. 
• Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing. 
• The ability to work without direct supervision and to work within the specifications set forth by the Administration, laws, ordinances and standard operating procedures. 
• Must be willing and able to attend department authorized training as required.
• Must be willing to be on call for off-hours emergencies or issues.
• Must be able to work a flexible shift consisting of early mornings, evenings or weekends as needed.
• Must furnish information for and pass the required background check.
• Must sign a department issued Confidentiality Statement.

QUALIFICATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Associate’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Prior 2-5 years’ relevant experience supporting, implementing and/or administering Microsoft Windows servers and workstations, Firewalls, and Active Directory.
• Preferred Certifications and skills:
  • A+, NET+
  • Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA)
  • Security +
  • Network hardware: VLANS and Routing
  • Network Protocols: DNS, VPN, TCP/IP
  • Windows Server: 2019-2022 (Active Directory, Group Policy, Permissions)
  • Cyber Security 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENTS:

• Must be free of any physical, mental or emotional impairment which would obstruct or hinder the effective and efficient performance of the tasks required by this job description. 
• Ability to walk, stand, push, pull, reach, bend and stoop for network troubleshooting; climb stairs and ladders; sit for extended periods of time and perform repetitive motions, such as typing on the keyboard; must be able to see and read a computer monitor screen; must be able to occasionally lift more than 50 pounds.
