Horticulture & Consumables Intern
Babylon Micro-Farms has developed an IoT enabled on-demand farming service that remotely manages on-site indoor farms. The company’s farming modules and platform make sustainable indoor farming accessible to a much broader market than is currently possible, and greatly improve quality, reduce waste, and save money for its customers. Babylon is a high growth, early-stage company based in Richmond, VA.
Horticulture & Consumables Intern Overview
The Horticulture & Consumables Intern is responsible for preparing the seed and supply orders that ship to Babylon's fleet of farms. Safe, accurate packaging and correctly seeded trays are the first step to a successful harvest. You'll also pitch in on general farm upkeep and research support as needed. Flexible scheduling around class hours; on-site during business hours. This is an on-site role
Consumables & Order Fulfillment
- Review and prepare weekly seed orders
- Safely prepare and vacuum seal seed packs (we'll train you)
- Track seed and supply inventory; complete material counts and flag low stock for reorder
Seeding & Farm Support
- Sow seeds with proper labels and correct densities; transplant seedlings at the right growth stage
- Follow food safety procedures when handling seed and crops
- Harvest and weigh crops; wash and store trays
- Keep area clean, stocked, and organized
- Collect trial data and photographic documentation on schedule
- Enter and organize data in Google Sheets/Excel; note anomalies and deviations
Minimum Qualifications
- Keen attention to detail and a stickler for safety and cleanliness
- Ability to follow written SOPs precisely and work independently
- Comfortable with Google Sheets/Excel and learning new software
- Positive attitude, easy to work with
Preferred Qualifications
- Pursuing a degree in Horticulture, Plant Science, Environmental Science, or a related field
- Interest in sustainability, agriculture, or controlled environment growing
- Familiarity with food safety or quality control procedures
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, standing and walking for extended periods
- Comfortable wearing protective equipment (gloves, booties, etc.)
Pay/Benefits
- $15 - $17/hr (Up to 20 hours per week)

- Fresh produce (leafy greens and herbs) to take
