Part-Time STEAM Instructor
Young STEAMers is a nonprofit organization dedicated to making hands-on STEAM education accessible to children from underserved communities throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. We bring engaging, inquiry-based science and engineering programs directly to partner schools, libraries, shelters, and community organizations.
Position Description
We are seeking experienced, enthusiastic educators to teach hands-on STEAM classes for students ages 4 -14. This position is ideal for teachers, or substitute teachers and other professionals who enjoy helping children explore science through creative, interactive activities.
Young STEAMers provides the lesson plans, presentation slides, worksheets, materials, and training needed to teach each class successfully. Instructors are assigned to program locations based on their availability and preferred geographic area.
What You’ll Do
- Lead engaging, hands-on STEAM lessons for students ages 4 -14
- Create a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment
- Encourage curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, and confidence
- Follow provided lesson plans while adapting instruction to students’ needs
- Prepare for each lesson by completing the required training
- Communicate professionally with Young STEAMers staff and site partners
- Work collaboratively with a co-instructor when assigned
- Serve as a positive role model for students
What We’re Looking For
- Classroom experience working with children ages 4 -14
- Experience as a teacher, substitute teacher, after-school educator, or youth-program leader
- Interest or experience in science, technology, engineering, art, math, or education
- Strong classroom-management and communication skills
- Reliable, professional, organized, and enthusiastic
- Availability during weekday afternoon hours
- Reliable transportation and the ability to arrive on time at assigned program locations
- Ability to complete required training and prepare before teaching each lesson
- Conversational Spanish is a plus
- Teaching credential is a plus but not required
- Long-term availability is strongly preferred
Program Locations
Young STEAMers teaches at partner sites throughout Alameda, San Mateo, Santa Clara, and San Francisco counties. Applicants may indicate the cities and regions they are comfortable traveling to and will be considered for assignments in those areas.
