Social Media Intern, Instagram (Unpaid, for Academic Credit)

Social Media Intern, Instagram (Unpaid, for Academic Credit)

FORMD · Remote (US) · 10–15 hrs/week · Full year, both semesters, through June 2027 Unpaid internship for academic credit. You must be currently enrolled and able to receive credit from your school for each semester you are with us. We cannot make an exception to this.

10,300 followers. One million views in the last thirty days. Official HYROX America Digital Partner. Now go make that compound.

We are handing one person the keys to an Instagram account that already works, and asking them to make it a great deal bigger.

About FORMD

FORMD is a HYROX training app and the Official HYROX America Digital Partner. Athletes use it to build personalized race plans, track their station splits, simulate races, and predict their finish times. Coaches use our web dashboard to run their rosters.

Two things make this different from most internships you will see:

It already has momentum. @formdapp does about a million views a month off 131 posts. You are not being asked to start from nothing, and you are not being asked to "help out with social." You are inheriting a live audience and a real distribution channel.

You actually own it. Most social internships mean scheduling posts somebody else already decided on. This is the opposite. You decide what we make and you argue for why, and because the account already has reach, you find out whether you were right inside of a week.

What you would actually do

You lead the Instagram account. You decide what we make and why.

  • Own the content calendar. What goes out, when, and what each piece is trying to do. You bring the plan to our weekly call and you defend it.
  • Ideate everything we post. Reels, carousels, graphics, infographics, memes, whatever is actually going to land that week. You bring the concept, the hook, and a reference for what it should feel like; we produce it. If you are comfortable cutting your own edits or making your own graphics that is a real plus, but it is not required and it is not the job. The job is having the ideas.
  • Spot trends before they peak. You are the person who already knows what is about to take off, inside fitness and outside it. Bring us three things a week we would not have found on our own.
  • Grow the account, not the post count. Every idea should point at one of two outcomes: people who have never heard of FORMD finding us, or people who already follow us downloading the app. We would rather post three things a week that do that than seven that fill a grid.
  • Report on what actually worked. Not vanity numbers. Which post drove saves, which drove profile visits, which drove installs, and what you are changing next week because of it.

Who this is for

You do not need professional experience. You need evidence you are already doing this because you like it.

  • You are currently enrolled in a degree program and your school will grant you academic credit for this internship, both semesters. This is a hard requirement and we cannot waive it. Check with your department now, not later: some programs cap how many times you can take internship credit.
  • You have grown an account. Yours, a friend's, a club's, a team's, a meme page. We care about the growth curve, not the follower count.
  • You can explain why something went viral, not just that it did. Hook, pacing, payoff, comment bait, the whole anatomy.
  • You are genuinely competitive about it. You would rather take ten swings and connect on two than post safe content nobody hates and nobody shares.
  • You are not precious about an account that already works. A million views a month is a floor to build on, not a thing to protect. We want someone who will look at what is currently performing and argue for changing it, with a reason.
  • You like fitness, or you are willing to get fluent in HYROX fast. Knowing the sport already is a plus, not a prerequisite.

You will not be a good fit if you need a detailed brief before you can start, or if you want a role where someone else decides the content and you schedule it.

What you get out of it

  • An audience on day one. Most social internships hand you a dead account and wish you luck. You are getting 10,000+ real followers in a fast-growing sport, which means your ideas get tested against actual people immediately instead of disappearing into a void.
  • The HYROX America partnership on your resume. FORMD is the sport's official digital partner in the US. That is a real credential attached to real work you did.
  • A weekly 1:1 with the founder. We walk through what performed, why, and what changes. You learn the growth side of a consumer app, not just posting.
  • Structured learning, not just tasks. Each month we work through one area properly: content strategy, hook and retention analysis, creator partnerships, and reading analytics. You leave understanding how a consumer product actually acquires users.
  • A portfolio with numbers on it. At the end of the year you will have before-and-after metrics on a real brand account you can put in front of any employer, plus a written letter of recommendation if you have earned one.
  • Free FORMD Pro for the duration, because you cannot make good content about a product you have not used.
  • Direct access. Small team. You talk to the people making the decisions, every single week.

The honest details

  • This is an unpaid internship. There is no salary, stipend, or other compensation, and none is expected on either side.
  • You must be enrolled and receiving credit, and we verify it before you start, for each semester. We will complete whatever paperwork, learning agreement, or supervisor evaluation your school requires, every term. If your school will not grant credit, we genuinely cannot bring you on, no matter how much we like you. If your school grants it for the first semester but not the second, the internship ends there, and that is not a reflection on your work.
  • Your coursework comes first. Hours are flexible and we schedule around your classes, exams, and breaks.
  • It ends when HYROX Season 9 ends (June 2027). That is the whole commitment: two semesters, start to finish, pointed at the end of the season.
  • You are not replacing an employee. You work alongside the founders, on work that exists to teach you the craft.
  • There is no guarantee of a paid job at the end, and we are not offering one. Here is our honest hope, stated as a hope: if you are excellent and a paid role opens up, you would be a natural person for us to talk to. That is not an offer and you should not take this internship expecting it.

How to apply

Email careers@tryformd.com with the subject line "Social Media Intern - [your name]". Four things, nothing else:

  1. A link to an account you have grown. Where it started, where it is now, how long it took. Any niche. It does not have to be fitness.
  2. Three post ideas for @formdapp. One sentence each, concept and hook only. Do not produce anything. Go look at the account first.
  3. One thing you would change about @formdapp's Instagram, and why. Two sentences. Be direct. We would rather read a sharp criticism than a compliment.
  4. Your school, your major, and confirmation that your program grants credit for internships. One line. We ask up front because we cannot proceed without it.

Applications close October 1st, 2026.
