FALL 2026 LEGAL INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY

Passionate about Public Service?

The Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) offers two internship opportunities for the fall of 2026 term in its Office of General Counsel: one paid position and one unpaid position that is eligible for academic credit.

The CHA’s Office of General Counsel is responsible for handling a variety of litigation, contracts, transactions, real estate, policy, and EEO and ethics matters. Interns may have the opportunity to work in all its practice areas. Under attorney supervision, interns will be responsible for: (1) gathering background information for transactions or case investigation; (2) contacting the client, claimants, and witnesses for interviews or to prepare for their testimony at hearings or trial; (3) working up administrative cases for hearing; (4) researching and drafting documents and legal memoranda, and drafting pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses; (5) attending in-person and remote court, administrative proceedings, and meetings; and (6) participating in conference calls related to pending real estate transaction matters.

Excellent oral communication, writing and research skills as well as familiarity with Westlaw are required. Must be able to handle and strictly maintain confidential information. Minimum 2.5/4.0 GPA required. Candidates must be a 2L or 3L in the 2026-27school year to be considered. Trial advocacy is preferred but not required. 711 eligibility or licensure is preferred but not required. Please indicate in your application if you are 711 licensed.

The credit-based internship position allows students to receive academic credit from their law school, at its discretion, and/or secure fellowships, scholarships, or other funding to support their internship. In accordance with CHA policy, candidates who accept an offer must complete a drug screening and background check, both provided at CHA’s expense.

Many law students have found this in-person, hands-on internship experience challenging and rewarding. Interested candidates should email their Cover letter, Resume, Writing sample, and Transcript (unofficial is accepted) as PDFs to the attention of Jennifer Resendiz, Legal Coordinator, at Jresendiz@thecha.org. Resumes will only be accepted and considered with all requested items attached.
