Campus Ministry Liturgy Intern

The Campus Ministry Student Internship for Liturgy at the University of Dayton works alongside the Liturgy team to assist in creating, organizing, leading, and evaluating the worship life of the university community. This position works 8-10 hours/week to enliven and deepen the faith life of students on campus through communal worship, the celebrations of sacraments, and prayer.
This internship is eligible for credit through the Department of Religious Studies for majors and minors. Students wishing to earn credit for this internship are expected to obtain permission directly through the Department of Religious Studies after they have been hired. In order to complete this internship for credit, students would be expected to complete a couple of extra expectations, including but not limited to an informational interview, a ministry application project, and a reflection essay.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- 60% - Work on projects to support the Catholic liturgical life on campus including:
- Assist in the organization and administration of all CM liturgical events and programs, especially New Student Welcome Mass, Family Weekend Mass, Ash Wednesday, Lenten planning, and Baccalaureate Mass.
- Assist in the training and database management for Liturgical Ministers.
- Prepare weekly prayer intentions for the Universal Prayer on Sundays and special feast days.
- Create and implement marketing for upcoming liturgical events (social media, posters, etc.) as well as our monthly liturgical minister e-newsletter.
- Organize Eucharistic Exposition sign ups and communications.
- Recruit Compline leaders and assist with first and final Compline celebrations.
- Recruit and communicate with liturgical ministers for special feast days.
- Organize and train leaders for Stations of the Cross prayer services during Lent.
- 15% - Participate in formation experiences, including the following: take 1 credit mini-course on liturgy offered during fall semester; attend monthly Mass coordinator meetings; attend at least one weekly liturgy team meetings per month if schedule allows.
- 15% - Develop student formation and engagement opportunities focused on deepening the lived experience of Catholic faith life of students through more active participation in the liturgy.
- 10% - Other duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications:
- Demonstrated student leadership
- Knowledge and experience involving elements of the Catholic Mass.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Responsible, hard-working and creative.
- Ability to work both independently with a strong sense of initiative as well as in a team environment.
- Some experience with UD Campus Ministry.
- Effective computer skills including Canva and Google Applications.
- Current undergraduate student.

Career & Self-Development – Students will gain an awareness of their own strengths and weaknesses, including how to apply feedback received and how to seek out opportunities for development. Students will be led through vocational discernment throughout their time in the position. Students will gain experience developing and maintaining professional relationships with peers, student volunteers, and professional Campus Ministers.
Communication - Students will learn how to be better communicators by interacting with peers, volunteer members, Campus Ministers, and Campus Presiders in writing and/or verbally and nonverbally. Individuals in this position will improve their active listening skills by interacting with and assisting student leaders, Campus Ministers, and Campus presiders to create meaningful communal liturgical experiences.
Teamwork - Students will gain experience in managing multiple projects involving much collaboration and writing and verbal communication with peers, volunteer student leaders, Campus Ministry team members, and Campus Presiders. This position will provide students with skills to help communication with a variety of different people who are all necessary to make liturgies vibrant on campus.
Faith Traditions - Students will develop deeper knowledge and understanding of liturgical theology and its application in liturgical practices. Students will integrate liturgical principles in their planning of, formation for, and execution of liturgical celebrations and other prayer opportunities on campus.
