Job Purpose :

Promotes and nurtures the education of students by planning and tailoring courses of study; monitoring, assisting with, and correcting, academic efforts; providing a safe environment conducive to learning; keeping parents informed.

Role Overview

Guiding Light Autism Academy is seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher (LBS1) to create a supportive, structured, and empowering learning environment for our students. In this role, you will design individualized courses of study, implement positive behavior strategies, and partner closely with BCBAs, administrators, and parents to foster academic, social, and personal growth.

• Predictable Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM (7.5 hours/day) during the school year.
• 3-Day Weekends in Summer: 6-week summer session with Fridays off (Monday–Thursday schedule).

Key Responsibilities

• Individualized Instruction: Plan, adapt, and deliver engaging lessons in core academic subjects, life skills (hygiene, safety, food prep), and vocational development tailored to varying learning abilities.
• Behavior Management: Utilize positive reinforcement and behavior modification strategies to build socially acceptable behaviors and maintain a safe classroom environment.
• Collaborative Planning: Partner with BCBAs, BCaBAs, social workers, and administrators to develop and execute Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
• Classroom & Staff Leadership: Supervise and guide paraprofessionals and teacher assistants to ensure adherence to inclusive special education standards.
• Progress Tracking & Parent Engagement: Maintain accurate student records, evaluate progress through standardized testing, and conduct regular parent-teacher conferences.
• Student Advocacy: Teach self-advocacy, goal setting, and daily living skills to build student independence and confidence.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Certification: Active State LBS1 (Learning Behavior Specialist 1) Certification required.
• Safety & First Aid: First Aid / CPR Certification required.
• Clearances: Ability to pass a federal background check.
• Key Skills: Strong classroom management, behavior modification experience, and clear verbal communication.
• Physical Capabilities: Vision and hearing within normal limits to ensure student safety and classroom monitoring.
