AAC Campus Outreach Assistant

The Academic Achievement Center creates diverse, innovative, and student-centered learning opportunities and personalized academic support that encourages all students to define and find success at UNCG and beyond. Through active collaboration with students, faculty, and staff, the AAC recognizes and builds upon students' strengths to cultivate learner confidence and academic self-efficacy. 

Complementing the efforts of the teaching faculty, students are served through a personalized and structured approach that includes tutoring, academic skills coaching, and Outreach Workshops on Learning Skills (OWLS). The Academic Achievement Center partners with faculty, staff, and administrators in upholding the mission, standards, and requirements of the University.

Position  

The AAC includes professional staff, graduate assistants, and undergraduate students who work collaboratively to accomplish division and office goals. In this position, the Campus Outreach Assistant will be supervised by the Assistant Director for Academic Excellence, Outreach and Partnerships and the Graduate Assistant for Outreach and Coaching.  

The AAC Campus Outreach Team represents and promotes the Academic Achievement Center through campus partnerships, campus events, social media, academic skills workshops, and email communication. The role of the Campus Outreach Assistant is to provide support for all Campus Outreach initiatives through content creation, brainstorming, event planning, tabling, preparing materials, campus communication, research, and general office assistance.  

The responsibilities of a Campus Outreach Assistant are: 

  • Assist with the creation of flyers and handouts for the AAC
  • Assist with office coverage, including working the front desk, helping students find their coach/tutor, and answering the phone
  • Create content for social media
  • Represent the AAC at campus events such as RWW and First Finals Fest
  • Regularly communicate with supervisor via email and/or meetings
  • Assist in the AAC office decor
  • Other duties as assigned

Time Commitments include: 

  • 5-10 hours per week (scheduled according to student availability)
  • Some weekend and evening hours required for campus events
  • Work study students are welcome to apply

 

Pay Rate:  Student Assistants are paid $13 per hour 

Skills and Qualifications: 

  • Must be in good academic standing with the university
  • Ability to interact with faculty, staff, undergraduate, and graduate students in a professional and personable manner
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to be flexible and work independently in a fast-paced and ever-changing higher education environment
  • Strong decision-making skills and comfort with translating knowledge and experience to new situations is strongly desired
  • Able to commit to 10 hours of work per week, including some evenings and weekends for campus events
  • Basic understanding of computers and Microsoft products is necessary, additional training will be provided
  • Familiarity with Canva or other graphic design programs preferred but not necessary, additional training will be provided
  • Proficiency in video editing is strongly preferred but not required
  • Experience with posting original content on social media platforms is preferred but not required
