Purpose

This position is responsible for supporting ENGIE’s Utility team, concentrated on project development for The Ohio State University’s Utility System. The ideal candidate has an interest in obtaining practical experience within energy infrastructure.

Non-Exempt; Hourly

 

Internship Term

The internship work term will be approximately January – May 2027, 10 hours per week minimum. Additional hours/weeks may be available based on business needs and will be discussed in advance with your supervisor. Additional terms may be available if interest by candidate and deemed appropriate by supervisor.

 

Essential Job Functions

The engineer intern will have the opportunity to assist in data collection and analysis of HVAC systems, water distribution networks and pumping systems. They will learn through hands on application the requirements and design of large-scale hydronic systems. This person will work with the Engineering Team and interact closely with project management team to produce system analysis, troubleshooting and predictive models for planning and construction.

Engineers in this role may pursue engineering or project management career track, gain exposure to mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems. Specialization in fluid handling systems with a focus on reliability and efficiency will be available.

Assist in Production of Engineering Documents (60%)

  • Perform basic engineering work and design tasks under a senior engineer’s supervision
  • Perform standard computations and analysis including mass balance and flow analysis
  • Learn to utilize AutoCAD and Revit software to prepare drawings and visual aids
  • Assist in the review of drawings details, schedules, sequence of operations and drawing content as directed

Assist in Construction Activities (25%)

  • Work as part of the engineering team and interact closely with the project management team
  • Review shop drawings and submittals 
  • Assist with punch lists and project closeout documents

Reporting (15%)

  • Prepare project progress reports for internal and external stakeholders 
  • Update and maintain shop drawing
  • Manage personal hours using company tools
  • Complete all mandatory safety training

 

Requirements

  • Engineering and/or Construction exposure in multiple disciplines, desired, not required.
  • Good analytical and strategic thinking abilities.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective interpersonal and collaborative skills in a matrix and multi-cultural environment.
  • Ability to meet highest attendance requirements.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally.

Education/Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of completed course work within Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent degree program required. 
  • GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Junior or Senior candidates preferred 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel 

Working Environment

The work environment for this position is mostly in an office setting with business casual attire required. Some site visits to active construction projects will require the use of personal protective equipment, which will be provided. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is not exposed to weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
