Purpose

This position is responsible for supporting ENGIE’s Capital Projects team, concentrated on project development for The Ohio State University’s Utility System. The ideal candidate has an interest in obtaining practical experience within energy infrastructure.

Internship Term

The internship work term will be approximately January – May 2027, 10 hours per week minimum. Additional hours/weeks may be available based on business needs and will be discussed in advance with your supervisor. Additional terms may be available if interest by candidate and deemed appropriate by supervisor.

 

Essential Job Functions

Assist ENGIE's Project Development Team as assigned. Responsibilities may include:

 

  • Support the development of utility and infrastructure projects for The Ohio State University by assisting with feasibility studies, business cases, and conceptual project evaluations.
  • Gather, organize, and analyze technical, operational, and financial information used to assess potential capital projects.
  • Assist in the preparation of project scopes, conceptual cost estimates, schedules, and risk registers for proposed projects.
  • Support Project Development staff in preparing presentations, reports, and project approval packages for internal and client stakeholders.
  • Review engineering studies, consultant reports, drawings, and contractor proposals to help verify alignment with project objectives and operational needs.
  • Participate in meetings with ENGIE personnel, university stakeholders, consultants, and contractors; document discussions, action items, and key decisions.
  • Assist with maintaining project documentation, milestone schedules, project tracking tools, and development-stage records.
  • Support long-range utility and infrastructure planning efforts through data collection, research, and analysis activities.
  • Conduct technical, market, and industry research related to energy systems, utility infrastructure, sustainability initiatives, and emerging technologies.
  • Participate in site visits and field investigations to improve understanding of campus utility systems and project development needs.
  • Follow ENGIE health, safety, and environmental requirements while participating in office and field activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Engineering and/or Construction exposure in multiple disciplines, desired, not required.
  • Desire to gain knowledge of construction pricing, scheduling and execution processes. 
  • Interest to learn of Remeasure / Quantity Contracts and Lump Sum Contracts as relating to engineering and construction of industrial projects.
  • Keen interest in learning the relationship of engineering principles to engineering scheduling and execution processes. 
  • Good analytical and strategic thinking abilities.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective interpersonal and collaborative skills in a matrix and multi-cultural environment.
  • Ability to meet highest attendance requirements.
  • Ability communicate effectively, both written and verbally.

Education/Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of completed course work within Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent degree program required. 
  • GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Junior or Senior candidates preferred 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel 

Working Environment

The work environment for this position is mostly in an office setting with business casual attire required. Some site visits to active construction projects will require the use of personal protective equipment, which will be provided. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is not exposed to weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
