Classroom: Assigned across Infant, Toddler, and Preschool classrooms based on program need
Reports to: Classroom Teacher of the assigned room and the Group Supervisor
Job type: Full-time and part-time available, in person, within program hours of 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Location: 1942 N. Front Street, Fishtown, Philadelphia, PA 19122

Who this role is for

This posting is for candidates who hold a current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential and have not yet completed a college degree. It is the entry point onto ENLA Learning's teaching ladder. The Aide works alongside credentialed Teachers, learns the ENLA Learning way of running a room, and moves to Teacher Assistant once an A.A. in Early Childhood Education (or equivalent ECE credits) is complete. ENLA Learning offers tuition reimbursement toward that degree.

About this role

The Classroom Aide is the hands-on second set of hands in the room. On a normal day, that means preparing materials, sanitizing, supervising, and carrying routines. On the days that matter most, it means stepping into the room so the Teacher never has to leave it: when a child needs a diaper change or bathroom run, the Aide covers the floor so the Teacher stays with the group and the room stays in ratio.

ENLA Learning holds tighter ratios than the state requires: 1:3 in Infant, 1:4 in Younger Toddler, 1:5 in Older Toddler, and 1:8 in Preschool. The Aide is often the person who makes that math work.

Responsibilities

  • Support Teachers in carrying out daily activities, routines, and transitions in the assigned room
  • Cover the classroom floor during diaper and bathroom runs so the Teacher stays with the group
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, Montessori-inspired classroom environment
  • Provide attentive, responsive supervision of children at all times
  • Assist with meals, hygiene, rest, and outdoor time
  • Complete classroom prep, sanitizing, laundry, and end-of-day reset
  • Engage warmly and respectfully with every child and family
  • Log diapers, meals, and observations in Procare as directed
  • Follow direction from Teachers and lead staff with reliability and care

Qualifications

  • Current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, required
  • High school diploma or GED, required
  • No college degree required. Candidates actively pursuing an A.A. in ECE are strongly encouraged to apply
  • Must be at least 18 years old (PA DHS minimum)
  • Prior experience with young children preferred but not required

State clearances, certifications, and required trainings

Must be current before the first day on the floor and renewed on schedule. ENLA Learning tracks expiration dates and gives advance notice. A lapsed credential removes a staff member from the floor until cleared.

  • FBI fingerprint clearance (IdentoGO PA DHS enrollment, service code 1KG738)
  • PA State Police criminal background clearance (PATCH)
  • PA Child Abuse History clearance (PA Child Welfare Portal)
  • National Sex Offender Registry check (NSOPW.gov)
  • Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification (American Red Cross or American Heart Association)
  • Mandated Reporter training certificate (University of Pittsburgh)
  • Fire safety training (Pennsylvania Professional Development Registry)
  • Health and Safety training, CCDBG-required topics (Pennsylvania Professional Development Registry)
  • Minimum 15 clock hours of annual professional training, tracked via the Pennsylvania Professional Development Registry
  • TB test within the last 2 years
  • Physical examination within the last 2 years

Required personal qualities

Bright-line rule: reliability and on-time arrival. The Aide is frequently the difference between a room in ratio and a room out of ratio. Punctuality is a core job skill and is evaluated continuously.
