Do you love American Sign Language and enjoy helping young people learn, connect, and build confidence?

Whizara is looking for a passionate Part-Time American Sign Language (ASL) Instructor to lead an engaging after-school program for students in San Diego/South Bay.

You'll introduce students to the fundamentals of ASL through fun, interactive, and age-appropriate activities. Students will learn foundational signs, vocabulary, fingerspelling, everyday expressions, and basic conversational skills while developing confidence and an appreciation for Deaf culture and inclusive communication.

You do not need to be a professional ASL instructor or completely fluent to apply. If you have a solid foundation in ASL, can demonstrate beginner-level signs clearly, and enjoy helping students learn, we would love to hear from you.

We provide the curriculum and instructional materials, so you can focus on what matters most: engaging your students and helping them learn.

🎯 What You'll Do

• Lead fun, engaging, and beginner-friendly ASL lessons for students.
• Teach foundational signs, vocabulary, fingerspelling, everyday expressions, and basic conversation.
• Help students practice ASL through games, activities, conversations, and real-world scenarios.
• Introduce age-appropriate concepts related to Deaf culture, accessibility, and inclusive communication.
• Demonstrate signs clearly and provide supportive feedback as students practice.
• Encourage students to participate, make mistakes, and build confidence.
• Adapt activities to different learning styles, abilities, and experience levels.
• Create a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.
• Encourage curiosity, participation, and enthusiasm for learning ASL.
• Monitor student progress and celebrate their accomplishments.
• Maintain a safe, organized, and positive learning environment.
• Communicate professionally with program coordinators and school staff.
• Arrive on time, prepared, dependable, and ready to engage students.

We're primarily looking for someone who has a strong enough foundation in ASL to confidently teach beginner-level concepts and who genuinely enjoys working with students.

You may be a great fit if you have:

• A solid foundation in American Sign Language.
• Confidence with basic signs, vocabulary, fingerspelling, and everyday phrases.
• The ability to demonstrate and explain beginner-level ASL clearly.
• A genuine interest in ASL, communication, accessibility, or Deaf culture.
• Patience, enthusiasm, and an encouraging personality.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Comfort leading and engaging a group of students.
• The ability to follow provided curriculum and instructional guidance.
• Reliable, organized, and professional work habits.
• Respect for Deaf culture and inclusive communication practices.

Teaching experience is helpful but not required.
