We are seeking an Operations Research Analyst to join the IT Data Science department, where the Operations Research (OR) team develops and supports innovative analytical solutions to solve high-impact problems across Eastman’s manufacturing operations and end-to-end supply chain. You will deliver trusted, actionable recommendations that enable faster, better decision-making across manufacturing, supply chain, logistics, and finance. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys combining technical depth, business partnership, and measurable impact in a complex industrial environment.
- Partner with stakeholders to frame decision problems and translate operational needs into optimization and simulation models.
- Own solutions end-to-end: design, build, validate, deploy/support, and improve OR models and applications used in planning and operations.
- Use tools like Python or Simio to build and deliver optimization and simulation models for manufacturing and supply chain decision processes including production planning and scheduling, capacity and asset planning, inventory optimization, network design, and material flow analysis.
- Collaborate with data scientists, developers, and embedded analysts to move solutions from prototype to production, including documentation and user support.
- Contribute to OR applications (including generative AI) by helping define requirements, test features, and improve usability in alignment with governance standards.
- Work with internal and external data sources to ensure models are accurate, governed, and decision-ready.
- Communicate assumptions, tradeoffs, and recommendations clearly to drive adoption.
Qualifications
- Master’s or Ph.D. in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Engineering, Supply Chain, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of optimization or simulation, including methods such as linear and integer programming, discrete-event simulation or Monte Carlo simulation.
- Proficiency in Python or a similar programming language, with experience in object-oriented development, version control, documentation, testing, and iterative project delivery.
- Experience working with relational databases, flat files, SQL, and data analysis or visualization tools such as Excel, Power Query, Power BI, or Tableau.
- Familiarity with commercial solvers, OR modeling frameworks, or simulation tools such as Gurobi, SCIP, OR-Tools or Simio.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with technical teams, business stakeholders, and leadership.
- Interest in decision-support applications, visualization, and governed enterprise use of generative AI.
Location: Kingsport, TN (in-person)
What Success Looks Like
