Associate Security Engineer
Select Cybersecurity is seeking a Part-Time Associate Security Engineer to join our growing technical team. This position is designed for a college senior, recent graduate, or early-career professional with 0–2 years of experience who wants to build a career in cybersecurity through meaningful, hands-on work.
The Associate Security Engineer will work alongside experienced cybersecurity professionals supporting real client environments. Responsibilities will include assisting with security assessments, troubleshooting technical issues, supporting email and cloud security environments, and creating and maintaining technical documentation.
The position will primarily focus on email security and Microsoft 365 technologies, including exposure to Mimecast, Exchange Online, DNS, DMARC, SPF, and DKIM. Prior experience with these technologies is helpful but not required.
Because Select is a small and growing cybersecurity company, the role will also provide opportunities to contribute outside traditional security engineering. This may include basic web development and website maintenance, AI-assisted workflows, automation, scripting, internal technology projects, and process improvement.
Ideal candidates will have a foundational understanding of cybersecurity, networking, systems, or cloud technologies; basic familiarity with web technologies such as HTML and CSS; and experience using modern AI tools for technical, academic, development, research, or productivity work.
We're particularly interested in candidates who demonstrate curiosity, strong problem-solving skills, clear communication, reliability, and a willingness to learn unfamiliar technologies. We don't expect an Associate Security Engineer to arrive knowing everything. We do expect someone who is comfortable asking questions, researching problems, taking feedback, and assuming greater ownership as their capabilities develop.
CompTIA Security+ or a similar certification is helpful but not required. Experience with Microsoft 365, Mimecast, Python, PowerShell, JavaScript, APIs, Git/GitHub, or other security and development technologies is also a plus.
This is a part-time position of approximately 10–20 hours per week with the potential for increased responsibility and a larger engineering role as Select Cybersecurity grows
