What Your Job Will Be Like
We are seeking an Intern, R&D Undergraduate Year Round - Department of Bioresource and Environmental Security, Onsite.
Sandia National Laboratories' Department of Bioresource and Environmental Security in California is seeking to hire a highly motivated intern to work on research with goals to optimize nutrient utilization and biomass generation in attached algae flow ways. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team and support exciting research using a wide range of molecular biology, microbiology, engineering, and analytical skills to address important challenges in bioenergy and environmental remediation. You will be guided by a technical mentor and work closely with a team of researchers and interns on issues of national significance.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Prepare and maintain algae cell cultures.
- Collect biomass and water samples.
- Carry out molecular and biochemistry assays.
- Perform test runs on lab-scale/pilot-scale cultivation devices.
- Use analytical instrumentation (e.g. UV/Vis, LC, MS, flow-cytometry).
- Analyze experimental data and present results to the team.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite in Livermore, CA.
