Software Engineering Intern — 2150 CICG Public Policy iLAB x EDUrain

Job Description

2150 CICG is seeking 5 HBCU students for remote Software Engineering Internships within the 2150 CICG Public Policy iLAB.

This is a paid work-study opportunity for students who want hands-on experience building and improving real technology. Interns will work approximately 10–15 hours per week on applied technology projects with EDUrain, a college housing technology platform.

This is not an observational internship. You will have opportunities to contribute to real software projects, collaborate with an active development team, learn modern technologies, and see how products move from an identified problem to development, testing, deployment, and improvement.

What You’ll Work On

Depending on your experience, interests, and project needs, you may work on:

  • Full-stack software development
  • Front-end and back-end development
  • Web and mobile applications
  • AI-powered tools and workflows
  • APIs and system integrations
  • Real-time databases and data systems
  • College and student-facing dashboards
  • Student housing technology
  • UI/UX implementation
  • Authentication and user-management systems
  • Payment-related technology
  • Automation
  • Software testing and quality assurance
  • Debugging and bug fixes
  • Technical documentation
  • Product prototypes and new features
  • Cloud infrastructure and deployment

Interns may contribute to existing EDUrain products, improve current features, test new functionality, or help prototype new solutions.

Technology You May Use

Depending on your assignments, you may gain hands-on experience with technologies including:

Frontend: Next.js, React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS

Backend & APIs: NestJS, Fastify, OpenAPI

Data & Real-Time Systems: Convex

AI: Python, Go, FastAPI, LangGraph, AWS Bedrock

Mobile: React Native / Expo

Cloud & DevOps: AWS, Terraform, Cloudflare, Netlify, GitHub Actions

Testing: Vitest, Jest, Playwright

You are not expected to know all of these technologies before applying.

We are looking for students with foundational technical skills who are ready to learn and become stronger software engineers.

  • Build or improve student-facing web and mobile experiences
  • Develop tools used by colleges and housing providers
  • Build dashboards and data tools

About EDUrain

EDUrain is a college housing technology platform building one connected system for on-campus and off-campus student housing.

EDUrain connects colleges, students, and housing providers through technology supporting college-branded housing portals, student verification and SSO, housing administration, verified housing search, roommate matching, financial resources, payments, and college-connected housing marketplaces.

Interns will have an opportunity to contribute to technology being built for real students, colleges, and housing providers.
