Survey/Utility Services Field Technicians - TriMedia - Marquette, MI

TriMedia Environmental & Engineering is seeking full-time, entry- to mid-level Survey/Utility Services Field Technicians to join our team in Marquette, Michigan. This multidisciplinary, field-based position combines utility services and surveying, with technicians performing a broad range of field activities including utility locating, utility surveying, GPS/GNSS data collection, construction surveying and staking, as-built surveys, and other field data-collection services. Travel is required for project assignments.

WHAT YOU WILL DO.

  • Perform utility locating and field investigation using electromagnetic locating equipment, utility records, plans, and other approved methods to identify and mark subsurface utilities.
  • Use survey-grade GPS/GNSS equipment, data collectors, and other surveying instruments to accurately locate and document identified utilities and other field features.
  • Perform a variety of surveying activities independent of utility locating, including topographic, construction, as-built, control, boundary, and other surveys as required by project scope.
  • Perform construction staking and layout, including establishing and documenting locations, elevations, offsets, and other project features to support construction activities.
  • Collect as-built measurements and survey data for completed pipelines, utilities, structures, and other improvements to support accurate as-built documentation and mapping.
  • Collect, process, and document field data using GPS/GNSS, total stations, GIS equipment, electronic data collectors, and other technical field equipment.
  • Perform field verification and quality-control activities, comparing field conditions, plans, records, and collected data to identify discrepancies and ensure accurate and complete project information.
  • Interpret survey plans, construction drawings, utility records, and other project documentation to determine field requirements and properly document existing and newly constructed conditions.
  • Maintain accurate field notes, sketches, photographs, measurements, survey data, and electronic records in accordance with project requirements and TriMedia procedures.
  • Work independently and as part of a field crew while coordinating with project managers, GIS/data personnel, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Review collected field information for completeness, accuracy, and consistency before submitting data for processing and development of project deliverables.
  • Follow company, client, and project-owner safety and quality requirements, including working safely around active construction, heavy equipment, traffic, and existing underground utilities.
  • Participate in ongoing technical and safety training and professional development provided by TriMedia, with opportunities to expand skills in utility locating, surveying, GIS/data collection, field technology, equipment operation, and project-specific procedures.
  • Travel to and work at local, regional, and nationwide project sites, sometimes for extended periods, depending on project requirements.


WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR.

  • Associate degree in Surveying Technology, Construction Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • Alternatively, two or more years of relevant experience in the pipeline, electric utility, surveying, utility locating, or heavy construction industry may be considered in place of a degree.
  • Experience using utility locating equipment, survey instruments, GIS technology, and related software is preferred.
  • Proficiency with computers and the ability to learn field data-collection, GIS, survey, and project-management software.
  • Willing to travel for project work up to 75% (work and travel related expenses paid).  Project work sites may be located locally, regionally, or across the US.
  • Able and willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Able to pass a drug screen.
  • Able to lift up to 75 lbs.
