What You Will Contribute

Badger Meter is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern to join our New Product Development (NPD) team and support the development of a next-generation ultrasonic flow-meter platform.

Working with experienced engineers, you will gain hands-on experience in product testing, fixture development, engineering analysis, CAD, prototype builds, and design reviews. You will also support Design Verification activities and gain exposure to how cross-functional teams execute new product development programs.

This is an onsite, 40-hour-per-week summer internship at our Milwaukee facility.

Essential Job Duties

  • Support component and product testing for new and existing designs.
  • Develop and improve test fixtures, methods, calculations, and engineering analyses.
  • Assist with prototype and product builds and evaluate designs during development.
  • Support Design Verification Plan & Report (DVP&R) activities, including test planning, data collection, and reporting.
  • Create and modify mechanical models and drawings using Creo or similar CAD tools.
  • Participate in engineering design reviews and provide technical input.
  • Organize and analyze test data and present findings to the engineering team.
  • Collaborate with Mechanical, Electrical, Quality, Marketing, and other cross-functional teams.
  • Support engineering documentation, project deliverables, and NPD activities.
  • Perform additional projects, tasks, and assignments as directed.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Coursework beyond Statics and Dynamics, with exposure to areas such as Machine Elements, Thermodynamics, or Fluid Mechanics.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical design, testing, and engineering fundamentals.
  • Basic CAD experience; Creo experience preferred.
  • Strong mechanical intuition and problem-solving skills.
  • Hands-on or project-based engineering experience is a plus.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative and willingness to learn.
