News Anchor / Multimedia Journalist – Sports Contributor

Are you a strong journalist who thrives on breaking news, enterprise reporting, and telling stories that make a difference in the community?

We’re seeking a News Anchor/Multimedia Journalist who can develop sources, uncover meaningful stories, report from the field, and confidently anchor from the studio. The ideal candidate understands that strong local journalism begins with being connected to the community and finding stories that matter to the people who live here.

This is first and foremost a news position. The successful candidate will report breaking and developing news, produce original enterprise stories, cover community issues, and anchor assigned newscasts.

We’re also looking for someone who enjoys sports and can contribute to our coverage of major local sporting events. From Friday night high school football to the LSUS Tigers and other significant regional sports stories, sports will provide an additional opportunity for this journalist to showcase strong storytelling and live reporting skills.

The right candidate will be equally comfortable asking tough questions at City Hall, reporting live from the scene of breaking news, telling the story of someone making a difference in the ArkLaTex, or occasionally joining our sports team under the Friday night lights.

Responsibilities

  • Report breaking news, developing stories, enterprise journalism, and community-focused stories.
  • Generate original story ideas and develop reliable sources throughout the ArkLaTex.
  • Anchor assigned newscasts with a clear, conversational, and engaging delivery.
  • Deliver strong live reports from breaking news scenes, community events, and other major stories.
  • Write, shoot, edit, and publish stories independently as a Multimedia Journalist.
  • Produce content for broadcast, digital, streaming, and social media platforms.
  • Develop stories that go beyond the daily news cycle and provide context, accountability, and impact.
  • Contribute to the station’s sports coverage when needed, including high school athletics, Friday night football, the LSUS Tigers, and other major sporting events.
  • Produce sports features that focus on the people, personalities, and stories behind the scores.
  • Fill in as a news anchor, reporter, or sports anchor as newsroom needs dictate.
  • Collaborate with producers, photographers, reporters, and newsroom leadership to execute daily coverage plans.
  • Work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, Communications, or a related field preferred.
  • Prior television reporting and/or anchoring experience preferred.
  • Strong news judgment and a commitment to accuracy, fairness, and journalistic ethics.
  • Excellent storytelling, writing, interviewing, and live reporting skills.
  • Ability to shoot and edit stories independently.
  • Ability to develop sources and generate original story ideas.
  • Strong on-camera presence and ability to communicate effectively during breaking and developing news.
  • Proficiency in social media and digital content creation.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Ideal Candidate

  • Has strong news instincts and wants to be in the middle of the day’s biggest stories.
  • Enjoys enterprise reporting and finding stories beyond the daily assignment sheet.
  • Is comfortable anchoring newscasts and handling breaking news on the desk or in the field.
  • Understands the importance of community journalism and accountability reporting.
  • Can work independently as an MMJ from story development through final edit.
  • Enjoys sports and is willing to contribute to major local sports coverage when needed.
  • Can transition comfortably from covering a major news story to helping our sports team cover a Friday night rivalry.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced newsroom and performs well under deadline pressure.
  • Brings energy, professionalism, curiosity, creativity, and strong journalistic instincts to every assignment.
