Failure Analysis Engineer

The role will investigate warranty and field-related product issues through hands-on testing, failure investigation, technical analysis, and root-cause problem solving. This role works closely with engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and service teams to identify the causes of product failures, develop effective countermeasures, and support continuous product improvement.
Responsibilities
- Analyze failed warranty parts and vehicles through hands-on testing and investigation to reproduce failures and identify potential causes.
- Investigate product defects and field issues related to design, manufacturing, service, or other field influences using technical analysis, testing, and data.
- Conduct troubleshooting and failure analysis to determine root causes and develop logical conclusions based on test results and observations.
- Develop clear technical reports, investigation summaries, and supporting documentation, and present findings and recommendations to management.
- Collaborate with design engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and service teams to investigate problems and drive timely resolution.
- Support containment activities by working with responsible departments and suppliers to identify, implement, and verify appropriate countermeasures.
- Analyze warranty data and investigation records to support cost recovery efforts and supplier discussions.
- Monitor assigned quality issues and contribute to product quality, reliability, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Manage multiple investigations simultaneously and follow issues through testing, root-cause identification, countermeasure development, and resolution.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics/Electrical Technology, or a related engineering field.
- Equivalent relevant technical experience may also be considered.
- 0–6 years of experience in engineering, product testing, validation, failure analysis, troubleshooting, or other hands-on technical problem-solving environments.
- Automotive experience is preferred but not required.
- Strong ability to troubleshoot technical problems and identify root causes.
- Ability to analyze test results, observations, and data and draw logical technical conclusions.
- Hands-on approach to testing, failure investigation, troubleshooting, and problem solving.
- Strong technical writing, documentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and service organizations.
- Ability to manage multiple investigations and follow problems through to resolution.
