Committee Clerk - MGA Government, Labor, and Elections Committee

Role Overview 

Committee Clerks provide hands-on logistical and technical support for hearings, testimony management, and bill file preparation to ensure smooth daily operations. Clerks will have the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of the committee process, and contribute to the Government, Labor, and Election Committee’s administrative success throughout the Legislative Session.

This is an entry-level, full-time role that is active for the 90-day Legislative Session. Applicants should have great organizational and communication skills, be fluent in Microsoft tools including Outlook, Word, and Excel, and be willing to learn.

Daily Rate is $150 per day.

Core Responsibilities

  • Prepare and organize bill files upon bills being assigned to the committee.
  • Print, organize, and distribute written testimony to appropriate files following witness sign-up period for each bill.
  • Set up committee room prior to hearings and voting sessions, including Zoom, audio/visual systems, and member desks.
  • Administer the hearing room Zoom tool to ensure virtual witnesses can testify.
  • Manage hearing timers and coordinate in-person and virtual witnesses with Manager during hearings.
  • Operate member and witness microphones to ensure decorum is maintained during hearings.
  • Relay materials and information to Delegates during hearings as needed.
  • Assist with post-hearing and post-voting file preparation to ensure bills can transition smoothly from committee to the House. 
  • Assist with end-of-session archiving, file boxing, and committee room reset.
