Communications Intern

Gladstone is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Communications Intern to support our Communications department. This internship offers hands-on experience in gallery communications, digital content management, press research, social media, artist-related research, and events.

The intern will work closely with the Communications team to help maintain accurate and up-to-date information across the gallery’s website, internal records, and communications platforms. This is an ideal opportunity for a student interested in contemporary art, communications, public relations, digital media, or arts administration.

Responsibilities

Website & Digital Content

  • Assist with updating and maintaining content on the gallery website.
  • Review artist pages to ensure press articles and other relevant materials saved in the gallery’s internal server are also represented on the website.
  • Help identify missing, outdated, or inconsistent website content and coordinate updates with the Communications team.
  • Assist with organizing digital assets and maintaining accurate online artist information.

Press & Media

  • Clip, organize, and archive press coverage related to gallery artists and exhibitions.
  • Monitor Google Alerts and other media sources for news and coverage related to gallery artists.
  • Conduct research on artists, exhibitions, publications, institutions, and relevant industry news.
  • Flag significant press coverage and other relevant developments for the Communications team.

Artist Exhibition Tracking

  • Monitor news and announcements for upcoming exhibitions, museum presentations, biennials, institutional projects, and other significant activity involving gallery artists.
  • Cross-reference new information with the gallery’s internal exhibitions document.
  • Add missing exhibition information to the appropriate tracking sheet and notify the relevant artist liaison of updates.

Social Media & Communications

  • Assist with research and content gathering for the gallery’s social media channels.
  • Support the Communications team with social media planning, drafting, scheduling, and general content organization as needed.
  • Research relevant cultural events, exhibitions, artists, institutions, and trends that may inform gallery communications.

Events

  • Assist the gallery’s Event Coordinator with event-related projects and day-to-day preparation.
  • Responsibilities may include guest list and RSVP support, research, organizing event materials, coordinating information, assisting with event setup and breakdown, and providing general administrative or on-site support as needed.

Qualifications

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student with an interest in art, communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, arts administration, or a related field.
  • Strong written communication, research, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work carefully with information and records.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and an interest in digital communications.
  • Knowledge of or enthusiasm for contemporary art and the gallery/museum field is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with website content management systems, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Google Workspace, or similar tools is a plus but not required.

What You’ll Gain
The Communications Intern will gain practical experience in the day-to-day communications operations of a contemporary art gallery, including digital publishing, press monitoring, artist research, social media, exhibition tracking, and event production. The intern will also gain exposure to how gallery departments collaborate to support artists, exhibitions, and public programs.
