WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY
As a Mathematical Statistician, you will use your knowledge of and experience to optimize business results and customer experience by:
- Evaluating data resulting from the application of mathematical statistical tools, models, methods and techniques to the public health area.
- Providing advice and assistance for statistical projects or studies that are new or significant departures from the relationships established in previous problems, studies, or investigations.
- Applying mathematical techniques and perform computerized analyses to determine the adequacy of collected public health data needed to resolve scientific problems, and modify existing techniques and practices.
- Serving as a program technical advisor developing methods and selecting techniques to conduct methodological research to improve sample surveys or experimental designs.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Basic Qualifications:
A. Degree: that included 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, of which at least 12 semester hours were in mathematics and 6 semester hours were in statistics.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience -- at least 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, including at least 12 hours in mathematics and 6 hours in statistics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Minimum Qualifications:
You must have one year specialized experience to perform successfully the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service performing ALL of the following:
- Applying advanced statistical theory and quantitative methods to the analysis and interpretation of laboratory measurement data and population-based data sets related to tobacco exposure, volatile organic compounds and other environmental chemicals
- Developing and applying advanced mathematical statistical models, survey methodologies, and analytical techniques to address complex public health research.
- Providing technical advice in developing study designs to collect and analyze data.
