Scientist II

We are seeking a dedicated Scientist II to support in vivo studies within our Cardio-Renal Metabolic Diseases research group. In this role, you will independently execute rodent models, perform physiological monitoring, collect and analyze biological samples, and contribute to the development of novel therapeutics. Working closely with cross-functional teams in pharmacology, pathology, and bioanalytics, you will play an integral part in advancing drug discovery projects while ensuring strict compliance with ethical and safety standards.

Job Responsibilities

  • Independently design, initiate, and complete routine in vivo studies in rodent models (mice and rats) supporting cardio-renal metabolic disease research.
  • Perform animal dosing procedures (oral gavage, IP/IV/SC injections), physiological monitoring, and sample collections (blood, urine, tissues).
  • Conduct functional assessments, including blood pressure measurements, telemetry, metabolic cage studies, echocardiography support, and renal function assays.
  • Process biological samples and perform molecular/biochemical readouts (histology, biomarker assays, qPCR, ELISA).
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory and vivarium equipment effectively.
  • Record, analyze, and document experimental data with high integrity and present findings at team meetings.
  • Maintain strict compliance with IACUC protocols, institutional animal care guidelines, QSR/SOP standards, and safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and support weekend work as needed.

Education & Qualifications:

  • Education: Master’s degree with 2–3+ years of experience OR a Bachelor’s degree with 3+ years of relevant experience in a scientific discipline. (Note: Non-PhD applicants required; PhD candidates will not be considered.)
  • In Vivo Skills: Hands-on experience with daily handling, restraint, dosing (oral gavage, IP, IV, SC), and sample collection in rodents (>50 animals at a time).
  • Disease & Physiology Knowledge: Strong understanding of physiology, pharmacology, and cardio-renal disease mechanisms (kidney injury, cardiovascular, and metabolic-driven dysfunction).
  • Lab & Molecular Techniques: Proficiency in sample processing, qPCR, ELISA, biomarker assays, or histology.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to perform moderate physical work in a vivarium setting, including standing/working under a biosafety hood for extended durations (>2 hours), lifting up to 20 lbs, and wearing required PPE (including respiratory protection).

Preferred:

  • Prior experience in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or CRO environment.
  • Experience with specialized functional assessments such as telemetry, blood pressure monitoring, echocardiography, or metabolic cage studies.
  • Proven track record of strong cross-functional collaboration and technical writing capabilities.
