Part-Time Preschool Teacher Assistant | Great for College Students
Looking for a part-time job where you can gain hands-on experience working with children while making a difference in your community?
The Greater Providence YMCA is hiring Part-Time Preschool Teacher Assistants to join our Early Childhood Education team. This is a great opportunity for college students studying education, early childhood education, psychology, social work, human development, nursing, or other related fields, or anyone who simply enjoys working with young children.
You’ll work alongside experienced early childhood educators in a preschool classroom, helping children learn, play, build relationships, and develop new skills. It’s real-world experience you can take with you into a future career, and a lot more interesting than spending your shift staring at a cash register.
What you’ll do:
- Help teachers lead fun, age-appropriate classroom activities
- Play, read, create, and explore with preschool-aged children
- Support children during indoor and outdoor activities, meals, transitions, and daily routines
- Help maintain a safe, welcoming, organized classroom
- Build positive relationships with children, families, and other staff
- Learn about early childhood development, curriculum, classroom management, and child assessment
- Participate in training and professional development
The position also includes supporting lesson planning, developmental activities, family communication, health and safety procedures, and developmentally appropriate curriculum.
You might be a great fit if you:
- Are at least 18 years old
- Have a high school diploma or GED
- Enjoy working with young children
- Are dependable, patient, energetic, and willing to learn
- Want hands-on experience in education or a child-focused field
- Can work as part of a team
No early childhood degree required. We’ll provide required YMCA and childcare training, including safety and child abuse prevention training. Additional CPR, First Aid, and required health and safety training are completed after hire.
Why work at the Y?
This isn’t just a part-time job. You’ll gain practical experience working with children and professional educators while developing skills in communication, leadership, child development, teamwork, and classroom management. It’s especially valuable for students considering careers in teaching, psychology, social work, child development, healthcare, or youth services.
