UI/UX Product Design Intern
UI/UX Product Design Intern
Top Tutors for Us is an education technology company focused on creating more equitable access to academic support and test preparation. We are seeking a talented UI/UX Product Design Intern to help improve the user experience and interface of our existing EdTech platform, Top Tutors Connect.
Our platform serves multiple users—including students, parents, tutors, school partners, and administrators. As we continue to grow, we are looking for someone who can help us make the platform more intuitive, modern, engaging, and easy to navigate.
Responsibilities
- Review our existing web application and identify opportunities to improve usability and user experience.
- Help improve user journeys for students, parents, tutors, school partners, and administrators.
- Create user flows, wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes in Figma.
- Design polished, responsive interfaces for desktop and mobile.
- Improve dashboards, onboarding experiences, navigation, forms, scheduling workflows, and progress/assessment reporting.
- Help develop and maintain reusable UI components and a consistent design system.
- Collaborate with our engineering and product teams to ensure designs are practical and implemented effectively.
- Gather feedback and use UX best practices to recommend ongoing product improvements.
What We're Looking For
- Current college student or recent graduate studying UI/UX Design, Product Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, Graphic Design, or a related field.
- Experience with Figma, wireframing, prototyping, responsive design, and user flows.
- Strong understanding of both UI design and UX principles.
- Portfolio demonstrating web or mobile application design work. Academic and personal projects are welcome.
- Strong attention to detail and visual design skills.
- Ability to communicate design decisions and collaborate with developers.
- Interest in EdTech, education, startups, or mission-driven technology.
- Front-end development experience (HTML/CSS/JavaScript or modern frameworks) is a plus.
What You'll Gain
This is an opportunity to work on a real, actively used EdTech product rather than a hypothetical design project. You'll have the opportunity to contribute to product decisions, collaborate directly with our technology team, build portfolio-ready work, and see your designs move from Figma into an operating platform.
I would also keep the “Automatically fill in the rest of this job post” box checked. Handshake can use this detailed description to suggest the skills and other fields, and then you can review them before publishing.
One important distinction: if you actually want the Handshake hire to write production front-end code, I would change the title to UI/UX Design & Front-End Engineering Intern and make React/JavaScript/etc. explicit. If they're primarily designing in Figma and handing designs to your engineers, UI/UX Product Design Intern is the better title.
