Video Editing and Storytelling Internship

Video Editing & Digital Storytelling Internship

The Video Editing & Creation Internship is a specialized opportunity within Cards for Hospitalized Kids’ larger Social Media Intern Team for students interested in video editing, creation, storytelling, and content creation. Given our growing needs for more video content in both short and long form, across our platforms as well as for use by schools, companies and more, we created this role to allow an intern to focus solely on this area whereas the regular social media internship focuses on a variety of different content types.

This internship gives students the opportunity to strengthen their creative and technical skills while using video to help make a difference in the lives of hospitalized children.

Social media is one of the primary ways people discover Cards for Hospitalized Kids, learn about our mission, fsee the impact of our programs, and decide to get involved. Because of this, video plays an important role in helping us tell our story to people who may have never heard of CFHK before.

Rather than simply creating promotional content, interns will help tell the real stories behind CFHK’s mission. This can include showing what happens behind the scenes, highlighting volunteers and card makers, sharing the reactions and experiences of children receiving cards, Documenting Hospital Drop-Offs, and creating educational content that makes it easier for new schools, companies, and individuals to participate. Additionally, interns will help spotlight unboxing videos from CFHK's care package program.

Interns may work with existing photos and video footage, help identify opportunities to capture new content, and develop creative concepts for both short- and long-form videos. Some projects may be designed specifically for Instagram Reels, TikTok, and other social platforms, while others may be created for use beyond social media — including presentations at schools, companies, volunteer events, fundraising opportunities, and community outreach such as this narrated card-making guidelines video which has been used by thousands.  Interns will also have the opportunity to amplify the efforts of the outreach team by spotlighting the involvement of various companies, retail locations, brands and more through short reels and videos

The role is part of the larger CFHK's Social Media Team, meaning interns will collaborate with other social media interns and may collaborate with fellow interns on various tasks. Video interns will have their own area of responsibility while still contributing to the larger social media strategy.

Interns are led by a Lead Intern and CFHK leadership and are supported throughout the internship with direction, feedback, resources, and opportunities to take creative ownership of projects. Students are encouraged to bring their own ideas to the team and explore new ways that video can help CFHK reach more people.

What Makes This Opportunity Different

This internship is not simply about making social media videos. It is about learning how to use video as a tool for storytelling, awareness, education, and impact.

A successful video could introduce CFHK to someone who has never heard of us, inspire a school to host a card-making event, encourage a company to become involved, help a new volunteer understand how to make cards, or show a hospitalized child and their family that people across the country care about them.

Students will have the opportunity to build a portfolio of real nonprofit communications work while developing skills that can translate to future opportunities in video production, communications, marketing, public relations, social media, nonprofit work, journalism, film, digital media, and content creation.

This is an opportunity to strengthen your skills, build meaningful creative experience, and use your work to help make a difference in the lives of hospitalized children.
