Brand Engagement & Public Relations Internship

CFHK has been fortunate to partner with a growing number of well-known brands and companies that support our mission through in-kind donations, products, promotional support, and other opportunities. Past and current involvement has included brands such as Bubble, American Eagle, Lovepop, Fresh Cut Paper, Cricuit and many others.

These relationships do not happen by chance. They require thoughtful research, targeted outreach, professional follow-up, strong relationship-building, and carefully developed materials that communicate why a partnership with CFHK is valuable and mutually beneficial as well as spotlighting the efforts carefully via social media. We've recently seen an increase in this type of involvement, thanks to diligent outreach, and believe there's immense opportunity in this area!

Our team further tries to maintain relationships with these brands--sharing updates or photos etc and ultimately furthering the relationship.

These partnerships allow us to provide meaningful items to hospitalized kids while also creating opportunities to spotlight the companies that support our work through CFHK’s social media and other communications. There are different categories of brand involvement such as for our care packages program (teen items, holiday, etc) and more. Further, In connecting with brands and our celebrity supporters via social media, we are able to spread the word and ultimately further our impact!!

Brand Outreach Tasks

  • Brand Research & Prospecting: Researching potential brands to outreach to and obtaining background, identifying appropriate contacts and information, etc gathering relevant background information before outreach. These are typically different categories such as holiday, teen care packages, supplies and more as well as sub-categories.
  • Direct Brand Outreach: Sending outreach to prospective companies and organizations, tracking these outreach emails and sending follow-ups
  • Follow-Up & Relationship Building: Conducting thoughtful follow-ups, tracking communications, and helping maintain relationships with brands that have previously supported CFHK.
  • Partnership Management: Assisting with ongoing communication and coordination with existing brand partners / parternship management as well as collaborate with the social media team to execute any cross-posting accordingly.
  • Pitch Letters: Helping draft professional pitch letters for various brands and making changes specific to the company / brand. Interns also collaborate with the on-site intern team to advise on where to send brand outreach letters to when outreach is conducted via mail.
  • Supporting Materials: Helping develop and organize brand-specific supporting materials, including different pitch packets, information sheets, examples, and other resources tailored to particular types of prospects.
  • Cross-Promotion & Audience Growth: Helping encourage appropriate brand partners and supporters to engage with and follow CFHK’s social media channels, while also identifying opportunities for CFHK to engage with and amplify partner content. The goal is to create a relationship that extends beyond a single donation and helps both organizations reach new audiences.
  • Celebrity & Athlete Support: Assisting with PR-related aspects of CFHK’s celebrity and athlete involvement, including research, outreach support, coordination, and helping identify opportunities to connect celebrity/athlete supporters with relevant campaigns, brands, and social media initiatives.
  • Internal Coordination: Communicating with CFHK leadership and other internship teams to ensure brand partnerships are properly incorporated into fundraising, social media, care package, hospital, and outreach efforts.
  • And more!

Influencer, Celebrity & Athlete Engagement

Interns sometimes also assist with developing and maintaining relationships with influencers, and encouraging them to get involved as well as spotlight the involvement. Examples include Celena Kinsley and Leah Messmer. Both videos inspired hundreds of fans to make cards / get involved. This process involves conducting research on influencers, outreach / follow up as well as sometimes drafting or updating supportive files / materials related to outreach or involvement.

In some cases, interns will help with efforts to encourage CFHK’s existing celebrity and athlete supporters to share their involvement with CFHK on social media. This type of engagement literally built CFHK in its early years and has potentially to help us expand greatly! An example is this reel by the Atlanta Falcons Cheerleaders, collaborated in Dec 2025, sharing their involvement. Facilitating involvement like this takes carefully crafted steps including drafting supportive files, template text for stories / posts, drafting well-crafted statements to be included in letters to their agents / publicists or etc.

Interns also sometimes collaborate with the social media team to ensure that influencer, celebrity, and athlete involvement is appropriately highlighted across CFHK’s platforms.

What Makes This Internship Different

This role is particularly suited for students interested in public relations, marketing, communications, business, nonprofit management, brand partnerships, advertising, sports or entertainment, or relationship-based outreach. Students do not need to be pursuing one of these majors to participate. We've had students of all types of majors over the years. This internship is a great chance to further your personal and professional development!

Interns learn that successful partnerships involve much more than sending a generic email. They learn how to research an organization, identify the right person to contact, understand what may motivate a potential partner, tailor a pitch, follow up professionally, maintain relationships, and work across teams to turn a partnership into meaningful impact.

Because CFHK works with companies ranging from smaller brands to nationally recognized organizations, interns may have the opportunity to research and communicate with organizations across a wide variety of industries.

Interns are part of CFHK’s larger Operations Intern Team and collaborate with other team members when needed. They are led by a Lead Intern and CFHK leadership and receive guidance, support, and feedback throughout their internship.
