Educational Therapist / Reading Specialist Center for Developing Minds — Los Gatos, CA (Hybrid: in-person + remote)
About the Role Center for Developing Minds is seeking a part-time Educational Therapist or Reading Specialist to work with students ages 6–22 who face challenges with reading, writing, executive functioning, and related learning differences. This is a contract position with a flexible, hybrid schedule combining in-person sessions in Los Gatos with remote/virtual sessions as needed.
Responsibilities
- Provide individualized, evidence-based instruction in reading, writing, and spelling for students with dyslexia, dysgraphia, and related learning differences
- Design and implement intervention plans grounded in Orton-Gillingham / Science of Reading methodology
- Support students with executive functioning deficits (organization, planning, time management, task initiation)
- Support students with ADHD, autism spectrum differences, anxiety, and demand avoidance using flexible, student-centered approaches
- Work with middle and high school students who lack foundational reading skills
- Collaborate with families and schools to advocate for appropriate accommodations (504 plans, IEPs)
- Support older students with college application processes and accommodations planning, where applicable
Qualifications
- Background as a Reading Specialist, Special Education Teacher, or related professional training
- Training and/or certification in Orton-Gillingham or Science of Reading approaches
- Experience supporting students with dysgraphia (writing/spelling difficulties)
- Experience supporting executive functioning skill development
- Experience working with children and teens with ADHD and/or autism spectrum differences
- Comfort working with anxious and/or demand-avoidant learners
- Experience working with schools to secure accommodations strongly preferred
- Experience with college application support a plus
- Math instruction experience a plus
