Part-time Adjunct Instructor of Global Health

The International Studies Concentration at Soka University of America seeks a part-time Adjunct Instructor of Global Health to provide temporary in-person instructional coverage for two undergraduate global health courses during the final portion of the Fall 2026 semester. The adjunct instructor will continue established courses using the syllabi, learning objectives, course schedules, assignment prompts, rubrics, readings, and other course materials developed by the faculty member taking leave. The successful candidate will preserve continuity for students while assuming full responsibility for instruction, assessment, student communication, and final grading during the coverage period.

The anticipated start date is November 2, 2026, with a paid transition and onboarding period before the adjunct instructor assumes primary teaching responsibility, currently anticipated on November 9. Candidates who could begin earlier if needed are encouraged to indicate their availability. The appointment will continue through completion of final grading on December 22, 2026.

Courses and Instructional Context

INTS 208: Introduction to Global Health (Tuesdays and Thursdays 1:00 to 2:30 pm)

An undergraduate introduction to the concepts, actors, evidence, and ethical questions that shape global health. The course addresses global health transitions and priorities; socioeconomic and environmental determinants; health and human rights; financing and implementation; infectious disease control; reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health; humanitarian and emergency response; monitoring and evaluation; and global health governance. During the expected coverage period, responsibilities include administering the Foundations of Global Health Examination, facilitating scheduled guest sessions as applicable, leading a presentation workshop and global health simulation, overseeing final student presentations, and completing final grading.

INTS 408W/PUBHLTH 408W: Epidemiology and Global Health Policy (Mondays and Wednesdays 1:00 to 2:30 pm)

A writing-intensive undergraduate course examining how epidemiology informs global health policy and governance. Students learn to interpret and critique epidemiological studies and translate evidence into policy and professional communication. During the expected coverage period, responsibilities include facilitating journal-club presentations and discussions, supporting development of the epidemiology portfolio, providing writing-intensive feedback, overseeing student presentations, and completing final grading.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of a master’s degree in public health, global health, epidemiology, health policy, or a closely related field.
• Prior experience teaching global health, public health, epidemiology, health policy, biostatistics, or a related field to undergraduates. Experience as a teaching assistant will be considered.
• Ability to evaluate analytical writing and provide clear, constructive feedback.
• Experience facilitating student presentations, journal clubs, simulations, or discussion-based learning.
• Applied experience in global health, public health practice, health policy, clinical care, research, program evaluation, or international development.
• Commitment to inclusive undergraduate education and to working effectively with students from varied national, linguistic, cultural, and disciplinary backgrounds.
• Ability to teach in person at the scheduled times and fulfill the transition and coverage terms stated in the appointment agreement.

Salary: The anticipated salary range for this position is $5,931–$7,200 per course and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
