Engineering Co-Op: Spring 2027
We're looking for students interested in working hands-on on real engineering projects. We offer Spring, Summer, and Fall rotations in a handful of areas (see below for more info).
Our goal is to bridge the gap between classroom and real experience. Our hope is for students to feel like the work they're doing is valuable whilst challenging.
Depending on a candidate's specialties and assigned area, roles require the following:
- Passion for mechanical, electrical, computer, or aerospace engineering, manufacturing, and technology.
- Strong analytical ability to solve problems and ability to learn quickly.
- Strong written & verbal communication skills to generate process instructions and reports.
- Ability to follow a structured project management process including document meeting minutes, action items, and monitor progress.
- Capability and tenacity for solving unique engineering problems.
- Ability to learn quickly and a desire to keep improving skills and to teach others when possible.
- Team player with a highly proactive and positive attitude with ability to work on own or in a team as needed.
- Hands-on skills. Demonstrated interest in building and testing.
- Regular, predictable attendance is required.
Please note that estimated time for start/end dates are based on Spring 2027. Other semesters will have different dates.

Conversion Engineering:
- The Conversion Engineering Team is responsible for controller-generators and starter-generators (as well as converting the power they produce). We design and support multiple products with our current new product introduction (NPI) programs. The Mechanical Engineering Team designs the housings and assembly methods for our systems, ensuring they meet strict environmental and operational requirements. Their work is essential to delivering robust and reliable solutions for our aerospace applications.
Embedded Systems Engineering:
- If you're curious about how hardware and software come together to power real-world systems and are eager to make an impact while learning from experienced engineers - join our Embedded Systems Engineering team.
Industrialization Engineering:
- Industrialization is the perfect blend of design and manufacturing work. We have a mix of both in reviewing engineering drawings, discussing design features, developing solutions, mitigating design risks, managing prototype builds, building tooling, and implementing new products into production. We get the benefit of working with every department in the business and every day is different. If you want to have a mix of design work behind a desk and time on the production floor seeing designs you helped create come to life - then Industrialization is right for you!
Manufacturing Engineering:
- As a Co-Op, you will work directly with our production team and design engineers to support the assembly and troubleshooting of aircrafts power-conversion units. We perform root-cause analysis on units that fail functional testing, remove roadblocks for our production team, diagnose defective parts, improve assembly processes, update work instructions, and initiate corrective actions. Production Support Engineering:
- Working in Production Support Engineering you will have the opportunity to work on real products and support day-to-day engineering activities that directly impact production, product reliability, and customer satisfaction. Responsibilities may include assisting with failure investigations, supporting resolution of production and supplier-related issues, evaluating nonconforming hardware, participating in repair and overhaul activities, reviewing engineering documentation, and contributing to engineering changes that improve product performance, manufacturability, and long-term supportability.
Project Management:
- Everything starts with an idea, and project managers bring ideas into reality. From managing and executing plans, creative problem solving, and balancing the needs and expectations of a cross-functional team; project managers touch every aspect of the business and the world around us. With Project Management at Safran you will get real world understanding of how products and projects come to life, leveraging the strength of the team and how to manage risks and budget along the way.
Quality Engineering:
- If you're looking to help ensure customer satisfaction and promote continual improvement of our products and processes, then the Quality Team may be for you. Our team is responsible for maintaining our Quality Management System (QMS), facilitating Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), and conducting internal quality audits. We promote continual improvement in the form of corrective actions and improvement projects.
Rotating Machines Engineering:
- The mechanical design team within the Rotating Machines Department excels in engineering robust and high-performance aircraft rotating machinery. This includes generators and starter-generator systems. This group specializes in designing critical mechanical components such as rotors, stators, shafts, bearings, splines, and housings to ensure reliability and efficiency under demanding aerospace conditions.
Supply Chain Engineering:
- Supply Chain is where ideas are transformed into finished products. We partner closely with suppliers to secure everything the business requires—from engineering components to the materials, equipment, and services that support daily operations. You'll gain firsthand experience in turning plans into reality by collaborating with suppliers, resolving challenges, and ensuring materials flow efficiently throughout the process.
Systems/ Analysis Engineering:
- The System Integration & Performance Team develops, integrates, and validates aerospace electrical power systems by bringing together hardware, software, and control systems into a complete solution. Team members support system testing, performance analysis, troubleshooting, and certification activities to ensure products meet customer and regulatory requirements.
Test Engineering:
- The Test Engineering Team specializes in test design, execution, and reporting for all power units. The team is composed of both test engineers and test equipment engineers. The test engineers handle the design, setup, execution, reporting of research and development testing, and qualification testing of new products and/or systems. Meanwhile, the test equipment engineering team design mechanical, electrical, and control equipment for the test lab to enable both production and new product testing to take place.
Through Life Support Engineering:
- The Through Life Support Engineering team works on the problems that happen after designs enter production. The team investigates failures (both in the field and on the production line), solves production and supplier issues, supports repair and overhaul activity, evaluates nonconforming hardware, manages obsolescence, and develops design and drawing changes that keep products operating safely and reliably throughout their service life. For Co-Ops, it is a great opportunity to work on real hardware, see how engineering decisions affect the entire product lifecycle, and gain hands-on experience through a wide variety of technical challenges compared to working on a piece of a long-term development program.
