K-12 Writing Coach (Remote)

Program Description

• Letterly coaches teach writing and communication bootcamps to students ages 8–18. Programs include weekly 45-minute 1:1 meetings, reading and writing assignments, and individualized written feedback.
• We provide a rigorous curriculum—including slides, worksheets, answer keys, and on-demand videos—but coaches have meaningful autonomy in how they work with individual students. We expect coaches to exercise judgment about when to adapt instruction, change course, or try a different approach based on what a student needs.
• Our coaches have helped students publish more than 15,000 articles in our online literary magazine, as well as contribute to our student anthology.

What the Role Entails
We are looking for coaches who can commit to:

• Hosting 45-min sessions with students 1:1
• Maintaining consistent availability during peak weekday hours (4–10 AM ET and/or 5 PM–12 AM ET) and/or substantial weekend availability.
• Supporting a minimum of 10 students consistently.
• Providing timely, high-quality, and individualized feedback on student writing.
• Meeting students where they are while maintaining high standards—adapting pacing, explanations, activities, and instructional approaches to each student.
• Taking proactive ownership of student progress: noticing when a student is struggling or disengaging, taking reasonable steps to address it, and communicating concerns early.
• Helping students become more independent thinkers and writers rather than simply correcting or completing work for them.
• Communicating and troubleshooting with our Education and CS teams regularly.
• Completing mandatory training, receiving pedagogical feedback, and continually improving instructional practice.

Desired Skills & Experience

• Teaching or tutoring experience with K–12 students.
• Experience providing individualized instruction and feedback.
• Experience in virtual or remote learning with K-12 students.
• Strong interpersonal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate professionally with parents and internal teams.
• Comfort working across multiple writing styles, genres, ages, and levels of student ability.
• Ability to manage multiple students, assignments, deadlines, and feedback responsibilities independently.
• Comfort working remotely and using technology including Zoom, Slack, and other tools.
• A degree or educational background that strengthens English writing and communication instruction is preferred.

Logistics
Coaches commit to a full Letterly Bootcamp (6-12 weeks) once a students enrolls. Students enroll on a rolling basis, and coaches are expected to maintain their commitment through the full program. 

Coaches are paid a per-student stipend broken up into equal installments for the duration of the program. Hourly rates average out to $25-30/hr for most programs.

Coaches must be able to commit to working with Letterly for at least 6–12 months.

Hiring Timeline
Hiring is done on a rolling basis due to high demand. Applications are open year-round until available coaching positions are filled.
