Summer Intern, Operational Excellence Lean

 

As the Operational Excellence Lean Intern, you'll will be responsible for supporting the Colorado Springs, Colorado Plant through the Lean transformation and daily management initiatives. The Lean Intern is an integral part of the plant’s daily operations, growth, and transformation. Your role will ensure the principles, practices, and tools are incorporated into the Allegion culture.  

 

As the Operational Excellence Lean Intern, you will have the opportunity to interact directly with all levels of plant operations and corporate leadership. Your role is key to the implementation and support actions that will bring about improvements to multiple areas including safety, customer value proposition, quality, delivery, cycle, growth, margin expansion, and inventory.

 

Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. The company does not intend to provide sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B, TN, etc.) for this employment position.

 

What You Will Do:

  • Support continuous improvement projects that will include collecting data, observing current state processes, and implementing future state deliverables using lean methodologies.
  • Drive Operational Excellence culture change through coaching of employees and leaders to drive Lean behaviors and follow the principles and practices of Allegion’s Operational Excellence Model
  • Support the Lean initiatives as the Lean Specialist in collaboration with the value stream team through operational design, process improvements, and systems support utilizing value stream mapping techniques.
  • Participate in and actively direct Gemba Walks and educating others on continuous improvement including takt time attainment and Lean methodologies.
  • Implement and maintain visual performance tools.
  • Shadow floor operators, supervisors, and management to observe process steps and build rapport

 

What You Need to Succeed:

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s program (Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Business, Operations Management, Supply Chain, or related)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Excel, Visio, and other various Project/Process Management Tools is preferred, but not required
  • Effective listening, time management, communication, and creative problem-solving techniques 
  • Strong willingness to learn, curious about processes, and openness to hands-on shop floor experience is a must
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher and previous work experience (preferred)

Compensation: This range is provided by Allegion. Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience.  

  • The expected Base Hourly Range: $22-$23. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
