Summer Recreation Intern

REPORTS TO:

Summer Staff Manager and Recreation Coordinator

PURPOSE STATEMENT:

The purpose of the Summer Rec Intern is to support the Rec Coordinator with facilitation of recreational activities in order to maximize the experience of the guest and the effectiveness of Tejas as a ministry. This individual will serve as a vital member of our staff team, Team Two:Three.  Putting others’ needs before our own, both in our relationships within the team and in accommodating our guests, striving to always count others as more significant than ourselves.  This is done in accordance with Philippians 2:3 “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.” 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

This person will serve alongside the Tejas team in fulfilling the Tejas mission of setting the stage for Jesus to transform lives. This is accomplished by exemplifying our core values:

Adventure: As a relational catalyst, and 

Safety: as an integral part of People, Service and Adventure


 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Summer Rec Intern Responsibilities 
    • Communicate with Rec Coordinator prior to arrival and during events, assisting with questions, planning and other information regarding group activities
    • Assist in maintaining all recreation areas including the pool, lakes, inflatables lake, one wheels, bazooka ball, axe throwing, boats, gel blasters, z-tag, mudpit, and escape box. 
    • Assist in maintaining inventory of the rec supplies and notifying Rec Coordinator of all needed supplies or repairs. 
    • Adjust and fill in at allocations as needed.
    • Rotate covering and leading night activities, rotating with the Rec Coordinator. 
    • Become the primary point of contact of weather and allocation decisions when Rec Coordinator is not on site. 
    • Provide a high degree of welcoming, detail-oriented service to guests and staff
    • Provide timely and professional communication for guests and staff needs
    • Serving as both planned and last-minute guest needs arise 
    • Serve at camp meals as needed
    • Assist all other departments as needed
  • Training & Oversight Responsibilities 
    • Obtain and/or maintain Site Specific Challenge Course certification in order to assist in operating our adventure elements for guests
    • Obtain and/or maintain Lifeguard and First Aid certifications
    • Assist in training Summer Staff who miss portions of staff training 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Previous camp experience preferred 
  • Flexibility and the ability to respond in grace when unforeseen situations require your assistance
  • Ability to maintain relationships with all guests and staff
  • A thorough knowledge of and effective involvement in ministry
  • A desire to grow spiritually and professionally
  • An understanding of hospitality and guest experience
  • A key eye for detail and reliability
