SOCIAL HEALTH OFFICER — MILLENNIALS
SOCIAL HEALTH OFFICER — MILLENNIALS
THE MILAN SOCIETY
3-Month Independent Contractor Pilot | 30–35 hrs/week | $30–$40/hour
Primarily In-Person | Montgomery County + DMV
Potential to grow into our Chief Social Health Officer.
Build the Silent Pillar of Health
Social health is the silent third pillar of health — alongside physical and mental health — and has a profound impact on both.
Recognized by the World Health Organization more than 75 years ago, social well-being has received far less attention than physical or mental health. Social health is about having the quantity and quality of relationships we need for meaningful human connection.
The Milan Society is being built to change that.
Why Millennials?
We’re beginning with Millennials — the largest generation and largest segment of the U.S. workforce.
Our work with the 1 in 3 Millennials living with childhood-onset chronic conditions illuminated the overlooked need for social health. When healthy Millennials — and people from other generations — told us they needed this too, we expanded our vision.
Our first community brings together Millennials across the DMV, including Young Invisibles (Yi) living with childhood-onset chronic conditions.
What We’re Building
A community built primarily through face-to-face connection, backed by online and virtual connection, with:
- Weekly lunches and Happy Hours at our Montgomery County headquarters
- Pop-ups throughout the DMV
- Monthly events and celebrations
- Online and virtual connection between gatherings
The goal is not simply attendance. We want people to return, form relationships, bring friends, connect outside Milan, and eventually shape the community themselves.
The Role
We’re seeking an outgoing, entrepreneurial Interim Social Health Officer to launch and grow this first community.
You will spend much of your time out in the community:
- Find and recruit Millennials where they live, work and gather
- Personally invite, welcome and follow up with members
- Help host weekly gatherings, pop-ups and monthly events
- Develop partnerships that help us reach and support Millennials
- Support connection between gatherings, in person and online
- Identify and develop natural community leaders
- Learn what brings people in, brings them back and helps relationships form
This is not primarily a desk, social-media or traditional nonprofit program role.
Who We’re Looking For
Someone who genuinely likes people and knows how to bring them together.
You’re warm, curious, socially confident and comfortable walking into a room where you know no one. You start conversations naturally, remember people, follow up and make introductions.
Experience in community engagement, events, hospitality, experiential marketing, organizing, outreach, membership or partnerships is useful.
More important is your ability to connect with people and turn those connections into community.
The Pilot
3 months | 30–35 hours/week | $30–$40/hour, based on experience
Primarily in person at our Montgomery County headquarters and throughout the DMV. Some evening and weekend availability required.
To Apply
Send your résumé and a short note telling us why you’d be good at bringing people together.
