Soulard Mardi Gras Event Operations & Social Media Internship

Mardi Gras, Inc offers an internship program to all individuals over the age of 21 during the months of December through March.
A background in business administration, hospitality management, or marketing, and an interest in event management and marketing is preferred.
Mardi Gras Inc interns will directly assist full-time staff and volunteers with a wide variety of projects related to day-to-day event operations and planning of the Soulard Mardi Gras Festival. This internship is designed to be both educational and practical. In this position, interns will learn how to take skills they may have acquired in school related to their particular areas of interest and apply them in a professional setting. The candidate will gain first hand knowledge in educating our members and business partners, and will gain professional experience in communications, marketing, analytics, outreach, and event planning for a thriving nonprofit organization.
Interns assist the staff with:
- Assist with day-to-day office management, including answering calls, responding to emails and messages in a timely manner, and resolve customer issues and disputes during events.
- Actively participate in the design and production of each Mardi Gras event by collaboratively assisting with site layout, event flow, creating of production schedule, obtaining proper permits, and coordination logistics.
- Design, create and execute social media content to gain followers and interest in the variety of events.
- Reach out to community leaders and organizations to aid in the overall mission of Mardi Gras Inc.
- Participate in planning committee meetings, including drafting agendas, taking notes, sharing ideas, and following event budgets.
- Secure equipment and rentals as needed, set up, tear down, and help coordination of overall event execution.
- Additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must be available December through March, and for all event dates.
- Punctuality
- Strong interpersonal, writing, and decision-making skills
- Ability to multitask in high a volume office setting
- Ability to accept constructive criticism well
- Computer skills using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint) and Google Drive (Google Docs, Google Sheets).
- Background in business administration, hospitality management, or marketing, and an interest in event management is preferred.
