Community Educator
The community educator delivers injury prevention programs to the community. Accidental injuries are the leading cause of death to children. More children die from accidental injuries than all childhood diseases combined. Our mission is to reduce and or prevent these accidental injuries though education, public policy change and acting as a resource to the community. Our programs are evidence based. This role builds strong relationships with community organizations, schools, service providers and individuals.
Key responsibilities
*Plan, coordinate and deliver workshops, classes, presentations and outreach activities to children and parents.
*Maintain accurate records.
*Promote programs through community events, flyers, social media and other outreach activities.
Qualifications
*Must be comfortable presenting programs.
*Good communication skills.
*Ability to work well with people from diverse backgrounds.
*Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
*Basic computer skills, including Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc.
*Willingness to work occasional evening and Saturdays.
*Fluency in Spanish is not required but a plus.
Working Environment
Position is located in the trauma services department of Sunrise Hospital. However the position will involve working in community centers, schools, partnership organizations and partner organizations. Weekly local travel will be required.
Compensation
The position pays $14.00 pr hour and is for 15-25 hours per week.

Must be a self-starter, have the ability to work with autonomy. Must remain accountable. Must enjoy children and enjoy being in the community. Has a passion for preventing accidental deaths and injuries to children. Ideal candidate would have a major in one of the following fields: Nursing, Health Education, Hospital Administration, Communications, Public Health, Education or any health-related field. Ideal candidate would like to make a difference in a child’s life.
