Photo and Video Assistant
About TriStar Visuals Photography
TriStar Visuals Photography is a photo and video studio based in Dalton, Georgia, serving athletic programs and families across the Chattanooga and North Georgia area. We work in one deliberately narrow lane: cinematic sports and athletic work, and senior portraits. That means media day and game coverage for schools, clubs, and travel programs, a full-service senior portrait experience built around the individual subject, and videography across both.
We're a small operation, which means the person in this role has real hands on real work from day one. It also means we care a lot about who we bring on.
The Role
We're hiring a Photo and Video Assistant to support shoots on location and handle production work back at the studio. You'll be on the ground for media days, games, and senior sessions, then in front of a monitor culling, editing, and prepping deliverables.
This is a hands-on production role, not a shadowing role. You'll be trusted with gear, with client-facing moments, and with files that go out the door under our name.
What You'll Do
On shoot days
- Load, transport, set up, and break down lighting, grip, and camera gear
- Run second camera and capture B-roll under direction
- Set and monitor audio for video work
- Assist with lighting for studio, portrait, and media day setups
- Keep sessions moving: managing shot lists, cueing subjects, helping athletes and seniors feel comfortable in front of the camera
Back at the studio
- Ingest, back up, and organize files following our established workflow
- Cull selects from large game and media day takes
- Edit stills to our delivery standard
- Assemble and edit video cuts under direction
- Prep galleries and final deliverables for client delivery
- Keep the studio, gear, and archive organized
What We're Looking For
Required
- Working knowledge of a modern mirrorless or DSLR camera system, including manual exposure and focus modes
- Comfort with Lightroom and basic video editing in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or equivalent
- Reliable transportation and a clean driving record; shoots are all over the Chattanooga and North Georgia area
- Availability on evenings and weekends, when most athletic events happen
- Ability to lift and carry gear cases for a full shoot day, often outdoors and in variable weather
- Genuine care about getting details right, and the discipline to follow a workflow exactly as documented
Helps a lot
- Experience shooting sports, particularly fast-moving field and court action
- Audio experience: lavs, shotgun mics, monitoring levels on the fly
- Familiarity with Photo Mechanic or another high-volume culling tool
- Motion graphics or social-format editing chops
- Prior experience working around student athletes, coaches, or school athletic staff
What matters more than any of it
Show up on time, communicate clearly, and treat every client's program and every senior's session like it's the only one on the calendar.
Schedule and Logistics
This role runs 10 to 20 hours per week with real seasonal swing. Fall and spring are the busy stretches, with heavier weeks around football, basketball, and senior season. Summer and winter are lighter. Most shoot work falls on weekday evenings and weekends; post-production hours are flexible and can be scheduled around your availability.
Position is based in Dalton, Georgia with travel to shoot locations throughout the Chattanooga and North Georgia area.
Compensation
Hourly, W-2, competitive and based on experience. A formal performance and pay review happens at 90 days.
