AI Fullstack Engineer
AI Fullstack Engineer
About the Role
We are a large integrated healthcare system committed to improving clinical efficiency, quality of care, and patient safety through technology and innovation. We build end-to-end products where large language models meet real workflows, including guided drafting, structured outputs, review tooling, and integrations with authentication, data, and messaging. As an AI Fullstack Engineer, you will own features across the UI, API layer, and data model, partnering on the prompting, evaluation, and safe deployment of AI capabilities.
What You Will Do
- Design and Ship Fullstack Features: Create interactive flows, forms, dashboards, and document-heavy experiences (e.g., rich text, diff/review, export).
- Integrate LLMs Responsibly: Develop system prompts, output contracts, parsing/validation, error handling, and implement guardrails appropriate for sensitive domains.
- Implement Backend and Data: Manage schemas, migrations, row-level security patterns, serverless or edge functions, webhooks, and background jobs as needed.
- Connect the Product to the Outside World: Set up SMS or email notifications, identity/MFA patterns, and secure proxies to ensure secrets never leak to the client.
- Measure and Improve AI Quality: Create offline scripts or lightweight benchmarks, perform regression checks on prompts, and collaborate with domain experts on edge cases.
- Collaborate on Compliance and Security: Ensure data minimization, auditability, and maintain a clear separation between public bundles and server-side secrets.
What We Look For
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript and React (or equivalent modern frontend) with a focus on UX detail and performance.
- Comfort owning API design, SQL/Postgres, and cloud-hosted backends (e.g., serverless functions, BaaS, or traditional APIs).
- Hands-on experience shipping LLM-powered features beyond a single chat box, including structured outputs, tool use, or evaluation loops.
- Pragmatic judgment on when not to call an API (caching, batching, client vs server, cost and latency).
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work with non-engineering stakeholders (clinical, legal, operations) when requirements are nuanced.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Supabase (Postgres, RLS, Edge Functions) or similar technologies.
- Familiarity with rich text/collaborative editing (e.g., CRDTs, operational transforms).
- Experience with document pipelines (PDF/DOCX parsing, HTML export, print/PDF generation).
- Knowledge of desktop wrappers (e.g., Electron) or static hosting plus serverless backends.
- Background in healthcare-adjacent or regulated product experience and familiarity with BAA/DPA-style constraints.
Working Style
You are comfortable moving between product sketch and implementation, iterating with designers and subject-matter experts, and ensuring the codebase remains testable and maintainable—especially where AI behavior must stay predictable over time.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong problem-solving ability and system design thinking.
- Experience building end-to-end features (not just isolated components).
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python strongly preferred).
- Experience working with APIs, backend systems, or full-stack applications.
- Ability to work with ambiguous, real-world data and translate it into structured outputs.
- Strong communication skills when working with non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)
- Experience with healthcare software, EHR/EMR systems, or clinical data platforms.
- Background in AI, machine learning, NLP, or data processing.
- Familiarity with healthcare privacy, security, or regulatory requirements.
- Experience building systems in highly regulated industries.
What We Offer
- Opportunity to build software used in real clinical environments.
- Close collaboration with frontline clinicians and healthcare experts.
- Stable, long-term role with meaningful social impact.
- Competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits.
