An Occupational Therapist (OT) is responsible for evaluating and treating patients who have physical, cognitive, developmental, or functional limitations that affect their ability to perform daily activities. The OT helps patients improve independence, safety, coordination, and quality of life through individualized therapeutic interventions.

What you'll do

Evaluate patients' physical, cognitive, and functional abilitiesReview medical history, diagnoses, and relevant clinical informationDevelop and implement individualized treatment plans based on patient needs and goalsProvide therapeutic activities to improve strength, coordination, balance, range of motion, and functional skillsAssist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including dressing, bathing, grooming, feeding, and toiletingProvide training in safe transfers, positioning, mobility, and use of adaptive equipmentRecommend and teach the appropriate use of assistive devices and adaptive techniquesMonitor patient progress and modify treatment plans as neededEducate patients and caregivers on exercises, safety strategies, and techniques to promote independenceIdentify environmental or functional barriers that may affect patient safety and independenceMaintain accurate and timely documentation of evaluations, treatments, progress, and patient responsesReport significant changes in patient condition to the appropriate healthcare professionalsFollow infection-control, patient-safety, and facility protocolsCollaborate with physicians, nurses, PTs, SLPs, aides, and other members of the healthcare teamMaintain patient confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times

Typical work settings

Skilled Nursing Facilities, Nursing Homes, Rehabilitation Centers, Hospitals, Outpatient Therapy Clinics, Long-Term Care Facilities, Home Health, and other healthcare or rehabilitation settings.

Required qualifications

Active Occupational Therapist (OT) license in the applicable stateGraduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy programCurrent CPR/BLS certification, if required by the facilityStrong clinical assessment, communication, problem-solving, and patient-care skillsKnowledge of therapeutic activities, ADLs, functional mobility, and adaptive equipmentAbility to develop and implement individualized treatment plans

Nice to have

Experience in Skilled Nursing or Long-Term CarePrevious rehabilitation or acute-care experienceExperience working with geriatric or medically complex patientsFamiliarity with electronic medical records (EMR)Experience with cognitive, neurological, orthopedic, or developmental conditionsExperience with adaptive equipment and home-safety assessments
