A Physical Therapist (PT) is responsible for evaluating and treating patients with physical, mobility, strength, balance, and functional limitations. The PT plays a key role in helping patients improve movement, manage pain, regain independence, and achieve their individualized rehabilitation goals.

What you'll do

Evaluate patients to identify mobility, strength, balance, coordination, and functional limitationsReview medical history, diagnoses, medications, and relevant clinical informationDevelop individualized treatment plans based on patient needs and rehabilitation goalsProvide therapeutic exercises, mobility training, stretching, strengthening, and other appropriate interventionsAssist patients with improving range of motion, balance, coordination, strength, and functional mobilityUse appropriate therapeutic techniques and equipment to support patient recoveryMonitor patient progress and modify treatment plans as neededEducate patients and caregivers on exercises, mobility techniques, safety, and home programsAssist patients with transfers, ambulation, and use of mobility or assistive devicesMaintain accurate and timely documentation of evaluations, treatments, progress, and patient responsesRecognize changes in patient condition and communicate concerns to the appropriate healthcare professionalsFollow infection-control, patient-safety, and facility protocolsCollaborate with physicians, nurses, occupational therapists, speech therapists, aides, and other members of the healthcare teamMaintain patient confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times

Typical work settings

Skilled Nursing Facilities, Nursing Homes, Rehabilitation Centers, Hospitals, Outpatient Rehabilitation Clinics, Home Health, Long-Term Care Facilities, and other healthcare or rehabilitation settings.

Required qualifications

Active Physical Therapist (PT) license in the applicable stateGraduate of an accredited Physical Therapy programCurrent CPR/BLS certification, if required by the facilityStrong assessment, communication, clinical reasoning, and patient-care skillsKnowledge of rehabilitation techniques, mobility training, therapeutic exercise, and patient safetyAbility to work effectively with patients of varying ages, conditions, and functional abilities

Nice to have

Experience in Skilled Nursing or Long-Term CarePrevious rehabilitation or acute-care experienceExperience working with geriatric or medically complex patientsFamiliarity with electronic medical records (EMR)Experience developing and progressing individualized rehabilitation programs
