Hours: Part-Time, Temporary – 25 hours/week
Job Description
The Ohio Hispanic Coalition (OHCO) is in search of dedicated individuals to work as a Tutor for the Niños en Acción (Kids in Action) Afterschool Program. The work schedule will be Monday through Friday, 2:30 PM-7:30 PM, program break periods, and excluding federal holidays recognized by agency.
About the Program
The Niños en Acción Afterschool Program provides culturally and linguistically-appropriate, academic enrichment programming for historically-marginalized, low-income youth ages 6-13 in the Franklin County area. The program will take place Monday through Friday 4:00 PM-7:30 PM, excluding federal holidays and program breaks.
The program will address barriers to academic excellence, digital literacy, and social/emotional development experienced by low-income, Latino/Hispanic youth residents through STEAM activities in a safe and healthy environment for participants to foster their academic performance, intellectual growth, diversity, self-identity/expression, healthy lifestyle choices, conflict resolution, anger management, career pathways, transferable skills, environmental awareness, financial literacy, and community and civic engagement throughout the school year and prepare student for future careers and independent living.
Role and Responsibilities
- Responsible for timely arrival and adherence to work schedule.
- Assist in providing services to families in public benefits applications, registrations, and general assistance.
- Physically active and engaging with the participants.
- Facilitate daily services for students such as classroom preparation, meal service, and overall cleanliness.
- Execute all educational activities, recreational activities, and responsibilities as assigned.
- Communicate effectively and timely any problems, concerns, or comments surrounding students, activities, or staff members to supervisors.
- Provide physical, cultural, and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math)-related activities from the curriculum available.
- Engage participants in group work and activities, such as reading, grammar, math problem-solving, technology skills, arts and crafts, projects, and physical activity.
- Maintain a healthy, safe, and clean learning environment in the classroom.
- Develop lesson plans and maintain classroom management.
- Ability to both take direction and work independently.
- Physical ability to lift and carry boxes up to 30 pounds.
- Flexible schedule availability to assist in community events and provide outreach efforts.
- Travel with students while managing student safety and behavior on the bus and at field trip sites, if applicable.
- Understands and is willing to travel around Central Ohio areas and/or be assigned to other sites when needed.
- Maintain constant and effective communication with the parents and supervisors in the program, when needed.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service to the students, parents, instructors, staff, and visitors at all times.
- Commitment to be present and assist with the end-of-program celebration.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age. (required)
- Legally authorized to work in the U.S. (required)
- Ability to pass a BCI Background Check (required)
- Valid Driver’s License and reliable vehicle. (required)
- Fluent in English (preferred)
- Fluent in Spanish (preferred)
- Microsoft Word, and Excel technological abilities (preferred)
- HS Diploma or equivalent (preferred)
- Required: Available to work the entire Afterschool program period (September 21, 2026 – May 14, 2027). Applicants that need to be absent for six or more business days off during the period will not be considered. Any time off requested during the Afterschool program dates must be disclosed and pre-approved prior to hiring.
Experience: One or more years of related child care or afterschool program experience (preferred)
- Must have the ability to handle multiple tasks.
- Must demonstrate sound judgment and initiative, and must display a positive and professional attitude.

The individual is required to use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. Also required is frequent hearing and talking, in person and on the telephone. More than 90% of time is spent indoors. The noise level is normal to loud within an active program environment.
Job Type: Temporary. Position does not include benefits (paid medical leave, paid time off, health insurance, 401k retirement, etc.).
