Project Engineers at ICI are responsible for a wide range of responsibilities, both on-site and office based, from preconstruction through final closeout and must be willing to travel between our Elmhurst office and multiple project sites throughout the Chicagoland area. Extended travel to project sites throughout the US may also be required.
Some of the specific core responsibilities of a Project Engineer include:
- Works with the Project Team to develop, drive and implement project goals
- Participates in New Project Setup process
- Assists and supports the Project Manager in preparing and processing Owner Contract
- Attends project meetings and prepares / distributes agendas and minutes in a timely manner
- Uploads and processes construction design documents thru project management system
- Assists and supports the Project Manager and Superintendent to develop site utilization programs
- Monitors compliance to applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards and policies
- Assists and supports the team with procuring building permits and coordinating inspections if requested
- Creates jobsite emergency signs
- Assists and supports the team with preparation of subcontractor contracts for review and approval
- Monitors return of signed contracts and associated insurance and/or bond requirements
- Maintains Project Directory
- Maintains and follows detailed procedures for the submittal review, coordination, approval, and distribution of shop drawings, samples, etc.
- Maintains and distributes all project files relating to subcontract and bid package records, plans, specifications, changes, clarifications, and as-built documents
- Assists and supports the team with preparation and monitoring of RFI’s
- Maintains system to expedite construction materials, deliveries and equipment lists
- Assists and supports the team with change events, vendor estimates and proposals and prepares appropriate company estimates and proposals for changes to be submitted to the owner
- Manages the punch list process
- Manages the Closeout Process to prepare project Closeout Book within 30 days of project completion
- Coordinate with Project Team to retrieve Permit and Field Working Drawings
- Return Permit Drawings to Owner and scan Field Working Drawings, if required
- Maintains open, responsive, and professional communication and relationships with all team members
- Maintains adherence to OSHA Standards of safety
Skills and Competencies:
- Understanding of basic construction technologies
- Ability to read and comprehend construction drawings
- Strong written and verbal skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize effectively
- Flexible and adaptable team-player
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Procore Project Management System
- Maintain a professional appearance and manner
- Excellent effective time and self-management
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in construction management or similar preferred
- Tier placement (PE I, II or III) based on level of experience and required oversight
Certifications, Licenses & Registration
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Ability to obtain the Walmart Safety, Employment, Waste, Stormwater Compliance Certification
- OSHA 30 Hour Certification or an ability to obtain
Physical Requirements:
- Position requires walking on rough/uneven terrain, frequent pushing/pulling/carrying of equipment/objects/debris of varying and often awkward sizes, shapes, and weights, including bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing on the job site.
- Sitting, standing and walking for extended periods. Climbing multiple flights of stairs and ladders repeatedly.
- Occasionally may lift to 50 lbs.
