2027 Summer Intern - Mechanical Engineering (HVAC/Building Systems)

Ghafari Associates is seeking an engineering intern to work fully in-office in our Dearborn, MI, Chicago, IL or Birmingham, AL location for the period of May - August 2027.

 

General Summary:

The Intern, under direction from the discipline Manager and/or project engineer, applies CAD/Revit skills and design knowledge in generating engineering design documents, digital models and databases.  Our mechanical practice designs the HVAC and plumbing infrastructure for facilities of all types including industrial, workplace, educational, healthcare, and mission critical.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Create engineering documents using computer aided design (CAD) technology utilizing AutoCAD and/or Revit software.
  • Work closely with engineers during design phase of a project to understand scope of the project information to determine design data needs and guidelines for the project.
  • Provide limited design on documents and detail design documents with input from engineers.
  • Make corrections and produce final documents for engineer's review. Check for integration of sections and coordination of disciplines. Work with engineers to resolve document coordination and production problems.
  • Reproduce documents upon request.
  • May produce drawings and digital design models in 3D software applications.
  • Deploy team oriented problem solving.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

 

Employment Qualifications:

 

Education:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor or Master’s degree in an engineering discipline at an accredited university. Students should have completed at least (2) years of classes. 
  • Familiarity with the concepts of heat transfer, thermodynamics and fluid mechanics is preferred.

 

Experience:

  • Previous internship/co-op experience is a plus

 

Skills/Competencies:

  • Familiar with design software applications (Revit, AutoCAD)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Capable of taking initiative; able to take direction
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
