A New Hope Center is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization, located in Tioga County, New York, that serves all victims of crime and abuse; most people served have been harmed through domestic violence, sexual violence, and/or child abuse. The Counselor/Advocate will provide direct services, counseling, and advocacy for survivors of abuse, as well as assist with coverage of A New Hope Center's 24-hour hotline.

Duties:

Full-time hours with shared on-call backup responsibilities for the implementation of our 24-hour crisis intervention services.

Provide crisis intervention, safety planning, needs assessments, client accompaniment and short-term individual/group counseling to victims and their family members

Provide supportive counseling and advocacy to clients staying at our domestic violence safe dwelling

Advocate on clients’ behalf with law enforcement, District Attorney’s Offices, public benefits agencies, courts, medical providers, and other relevant organizations

Develop and maintain strong contacts with referral agencies throughout Tioga and the surrounding region, and provide clients with information and referrals to outside services for themselves and their relevant family members

Maintain accurate case records and program statistics in compliance with funding requirements and objectives

Assist with community education, trainings, and outreach to community groups and service providers to inform them about ANHC’s services and relevant issues

Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications:

Commitment to learning, understanding, and addressing issues related to domestic violence, sexual violence, social justice, and an anti-oppression frame of reference.

Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively and on a team

Strong written and oral communication skills

Ability to think critically and address crisis situations as they arise

Strong work ethic

Open and accepting attitude

Education and experience are considered relative to the work and above characteristics
