New Choices Internship
NEW CHOICES INTERNSHIP
We are looking for a motivated and team-oriented student to assist in the New Choices women’s program. The ideal candidate has strong interpersonal skills, enthusiasm for learning, is innovative, and detail oriented. This is an unpaid internship.
The New Choices program addresses the complexities of intimate relationships and is a deliberate and purposeful intervention that challenges the beliefs behind the use of violence and abuse within relationships.
Required hours: Tuesdays from 9:00 am-12:30 pm & Thursdays from 5:00 pm-8:00 pm. Other hours are flexible based on class schedule.
Length of Internship: Through January 2027 (with the possibility of extending through the spring semester).
Supervision: Internship is supervised by the Director of Domestic Violence Intervention and will work closely with the part-time women’s program facilitator and clients.
Field of Study: Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, or a related human service field.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Co-facilitate group sessions for women who have used force in their relationships.
- Observe intake, halfway interviews and exit interviews for group participants.
- Conduct outreach to partners of participants in the men’s program.
- Assist in the day-to-day operations of the program including database entry, maintaining weekly notes, assignments, and other relevant correspondence.
- Collaborate with other program staff at CVIC to coordinate other services.
- Participate in team and agency meetings/trainings as able.
- Attend domestic violence court and other court hearings as able.
- Other training opportunities as they arise.
