Image Analyst – Digital Pathology

Position Overview

DTR Labs is a specialized histopathology CRO with laboratory operations in Dallas and Boston, providing pathology and quantitative image analysis services to support non-clinical research. We are seeking an Image Analyst to develop and execute quantitative digital pathology workflows across a variety of tissue types, disease models, and staining modalities.

The ideal candidate will have experience with Visiopharm or HALO and a background in digital pathology/image analysis. We will also consider early-career PhD scientists from relevant graduate programs who demonstrate strong quantitative aptitude, scientific judgment, and the ability to independently learn new technologies and methodologies.

This is a fully remote position. Candidates must maintain a consistent 8-hour work schedule aligned with our core operating hours, with the workday falling within approximately 10:00 AM–6:00 PM Eastern Time.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, optimize, and execute quantitative image analysis workflows for H&E/special stains, and IHC/ISH or IF/FISH.
• Build and modify machine learning algorithms for tissue classification, segmentation, object detection, phenotyping, and morphometric measurements.
• Perform quality control and critically evaluate algorithm performance against tissue morphology and study objectives.
• Identify and troubleshoot staining variability, tissue artifacts, segmentation errors, and other analytical challenges.
• Analyze and organize quantitative data and prepare representative images and results for scientific review and client deliverables.
• Collaborate remotely with pathologists and scientists to develop appropriate quantitative endpoints.
• Maintain clear documentation of analytical methods, algorithm development, and quality-control procedures.
• Develop proficiency of pathology terminology/nomenclature to support effective communication with pathologists/scientists.
• Develop a working knowledge of preclinical models and their relevant histopathologic features and endpoints.

Qualifications

Preferred

• Minimum 5 years of experience with Visiopharm, HALO, or comparable digital pathology/image analysis software. Analysts with experience working under a pathologist strongly encouraged to apply.
• Experience with histology, digital pathology, microscopy, IHC, ISH, or immunofluorescence.
• Experience developing or optimizing image analysis algorithms.

Alternatively

• Demonstrated ability to independently learn complex software, analytical techniques, and scientific methodologies.

The successful candidate will be self-directed, technically curious, detail-oriented, and scientifically rigorous. Because the position is remote, candidates should be comfortable independently investigating technical problems, utilizing available documentation and resources, and progressing toward defined objectives without continuous supervision.

The role is particularly well suited to a scientist who enjoys the methodological aspects of research—learning new techniques, troubleshooting complex problems, interpreting unexpected results, and translating biological questions into robust quantitative measurements.
