International Programs Intern

Internship Description: 
The International Programs Intern will work directly with the International Programs Manager to support the planning and implementation of the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) and the Library of Congress’ Open World Program. This role offers hands-on experience in international exchange programming, including proposal development, itinerary building, stakeholder coordination, and on-the-ground program support for visiting delegations in Des Moines.
 

Position Description/Responsibilities:
• Work directly with the International Programs Manager to support all aspects of IV programming
• Draft program proposals in response to project themes and objectives
• Research and identify relevant professional meetings, site visits, and cultural activities
• Maintain and update databases of professional contacts, volunteers, and program records
• Provide logistical support for visiting delegations, including preparing materials, confirming schedules, and assisting with on-site coordination
• Attend and support meetings, cultural activities, and events with international visitors as available
• Assist with general administrative and office tasks as needed

Learning Opportunities:
This internship provides practical experience in international exchange program management, professional communication, cross-cultural engagement, research, and logistics coordination. Interns will gain exposure to federal exchange programs, nonprofit operations, and community-based diplomacy.
